VLC media player - watch and record video from 2N IP Intercom

The steps in this article require using the web interface of a 2N device. Please follow this manual in case this is your first time using the web interface.
 
2N IP intercoms integrate an RTSP server allowing for audio/video streaming to VMS and other camera systems. 
VLC media player is one of several programs which can be used to watch and record the video stream as well.
 

Prerequisites

  • 2N IP Intercom with the latest firmware;
    additional GOLD License is required

  • VLC media player the latest version installed in your computer;
    https://www.videolan.org/

 

2N IP Intercom - enabling RTSP server

  • In IP Intercom web interface, go to section Services - Streaming - ONVIF / RTSP,
    enable RTSP Server and click the pencil icon to setup Stream URL

  • Setup User Account for securing the stream.

  • If you would like to limit who can see the stream, fill in IP addresses to "Authorised IP address",
    then you will be able to watch the stream only from that IP addresses.

VLC media player - watch the RTSP stream

  • Open your VLC media player and go to Media - Open Network Stream... menu.
    Enter the whole IP Intercom´s RTSP Stream URL (incl. "rtsp://" at the beginning) and user account details.

  • If does not work properly, then please go to Tools - Preferences - Input / Codecs menu,
    switch to "RTP over RTSP (TCP)" value, save and try the stream again.

  • During running stream, go to Playback menu and click Record to start or stop recording.

  • The recorded videos are automatically saved to your videos directory (for Windows users:  C:\Users\<your_user>\Videos ).
