2N OS 2.48 offers smarter, safer systems with enhanced accessibility!
Powerful new features elevate user experience, accessibility, and security: get to know 2N OS version 2.48.
What’s new in 2N OS 2.48?
Accessibility Mode for the 2N IP Style
We’re proud to introduce a major accessibility upgrade to the 2N IP Style, developed with upcoming accessibility requirements in mind, and in direct collaboration with Karel Giebisch, founder of GiebHelp.
Karel, an expert in product accessibility consulting, leverages his firsthand experience with a disability to advise tech companies on inclusive product development. Together, Karel and the 2N product and UX teams discussed how the right intercom development can fix common pain points for the blind and visually impaired.
The first result of this collaboration is Accessibility Mode for the 2N IP Style.
Here’s how it works:
- When a face is detected but the intercom isn’t used, after 60 seconds, the 2N IP Style will automatically switch to accessibility mode (a swipe can exit it).
- It plays a speech announcement for clear guidance
- The user can then easily locate the intercom
- And easily call the primary contact (usually reception) by placing their palm on the intercom (rather than one finger on a small button, which can be difficult for blind or visually impaired users)
This feature helps buildings meet accessibility requirements and makes modern access control more inclusive than ever.
Secured MIFARE® DESFire® card reading
We've been able to read encrypted MIFARE® DESFire® cards for some time using our PICard solution. Now, we're going further—2N readers can read RFID cards encrypted by third-party systems, giving customers more flexibility and aligning with industry expectations.
You can now:
- Configure and use secure elements of the card.
- Support typical third-party setups (parking, attendance, vending, etc.).
Noise suppression for ARTPEC devices
2N OS 2.48 introduces ambient noise suppression for ARTPEC-based devices (2N IP Style, 2N IP Verso 2.0, 2N IP One).
This will ensure clear, intelligible communication even in noisy environments like streets, industrial sites, or parking garages. By filtering out background sounds such as wind, traffic, or machinery, it allows both parties to hear each other clearly, reducing miscommunication and improving security.
It also enhances accessibility for people who are hard of hearing or speaking in a second language, and contributes to a more professional, user-friendly experience. In fact, high-quality audio is often a requirement in tenders for public or high-security installations.
It’s not enabled by default but can be activated as needed within the interface of the intercom.
Other improvements
- Basic firewall added for stronger cybersecurity, plus the option to enable/disable the firewall in network settings.
- Redesigned password change flow for added protection: now, when changing their password, users must enter their old password.
- Support for external camera defaults in IDV
- Better visibility of the Bluetooth icon for WaveKey users
- Syslog data anonymized: sensitive data in syslog is now replaced with hashed values.
