Let residents choose their own access PIN
The latest update to the My2N Management Platform brings highly requested improvements to PIN-based access control. These enhancements make daily access easier for residents while giving property managers more flexibility and stronger control over security based access control.
Custom PINs
One of the most consistent pieces of feedback is that randomly generated PINs, while secure, are often difficult for residents to remember. With this release, the My2N Management Platform now allows custom PINs. Property managers can assign a PIN requested by the resident, provided it meets security rules.
What does it bring?
- Better memorability — Users can rely on numbers they already know (e.g., part of a phone number or important date).
- Can increase security — Residents often remember longer, meaningful numbers more easily than short, random ones.
- Prevents misuse — Only administrators can set custom PINs. The system validates whether the PIN already exists, and if a resident could do this, they could abuse it to guess other people's PINs.
- Smart safety checks — The system rejects unsafe choices (e.g., 0000, 1234, repeating sequences). This ensures that security is not compromised.
When does it come in handy?
Mr. Adams lives in an apartment building and has been assigned a randomly generated PIN (167491), which he keeps forgetting. He calls his property manager and requests a PIN he already knows well: 798285, the years his three children were born.
The property manager quickly validates and assigns this new PIN through the My2N Management Platform. Mr. Adams now has a secure PIN he can easily remember and won’t need to reset.
4‑digit PIN support
Administrators can also set the PIN length to 4 digits for residents. It aligns My2N Management Platform with common expectations in the access control market, where 4‑digit codes are widely used. This makes the experience more familiar for end users and easier to adopt. It also speeds up daily access, as shorter PINs can be entered more quickly and comfortably.
At the same time, we prioritize security. Property managers receive clear warnings about the reduced security of shorter PINs, ensuring that decisions around configuration are well‑informed.
Overall, the option to use 4‑digit PINs is particularly beneficial in projects that require meeting established access standards or that prioritize simplifying the user experience.
