Building accessibility & 2N intercom solutions

Creating the future of access and motion – for all!

Meet the European Accessibility Act (EAA) with 2N

The European Accessibility Act (2019/882) is a landmark EU directive that mandates accessibility in digital products and services, including intercoms and answering units.

Effective from June 2025, it aims to harmonise accessibility across EU member states and introduces penalties for non-compliance.

Our products meet the requirements of this Act—they are designed to be fully functional and accessible to users with specific needs

2N’s accessible features: For real users’ needs

We partnered with an expert in inclusive design to gain a deeper understanding of the real-life barriers that blind people face when using intercoms.

The result? A 2N IP Style that is fully accessible for the blind or visually impaired!

Accessibility Mode will automatically activate when a face that has not used the intercom for 30 seconds is detected. Then, a voice announcement will guide the user, who can call the primary contact by placing their palm on the device.

Available in 2N OS version 2.48.

The blind and visually impaired can easily use our mechanical keypads: they feature a marked ‘5’ key as standard for easy navigation.

2N intercom & indoor panel touch screens come with tactile stickers, designed to be added to the main calling button, or on the ‘5’ key, depending on the product.

Help the deaf with pictograms

Visual aids, available on almost all 2N intercoms, make it easier for the deaf and hearing-impaired to understand and follow the calling process

They clearly show users what state the intercom is in:

  • In-call
  • Door open
  • Access denied

Audio prompts & navigation

Helps the visually impaired by providing spoken guidance or feedback

  • Integrators can upload audio messages that play on 2N intercoms in whichever language they need! For more information on how to do this, please visit the 2N wiki or contact our technical support.
  • Visually impaired users can then hear instructions (e.g., "Please present your access card" or "Call in progress")
  • Ensures users know what’s happening at each step, even without seeing the screen.
  • Our indoor panels can also play custom ringtones for each entrance, so visually impaired or blind users know precisely where their visitor is calling from
