Success Story Fingerprint access. The town of Bílina is expanding its unique security system with 2N

Challenge

The Bílina town council decided to expand the town’s digital infrastructure and also focus on improving security at primary and nursery schools as part of the “Smart Cities” project. Besides greater security, other key requirements for the new access control system were simple integration and attendance records. For these projects, 2N products were the obvious choice and satisfied all the requirements. The town selected an electronic access control and attendance system with biometric readers for seven nursery school buildings and three primary schools. Parents and children can open the door by scanning their fingerprint, a similar system also being used by municipal authority employees and police for keeping attendance records.

Due to a change in ownership, the various systems in the building, including the access system, have been revisited. The new management was looking for an access system that used IP technology and would be reliable, stylish, and easy to install. The integrator and our business partner, LAST MILE, defined the  following specifications for the access control system.

Solution A total of 29 2N intercoms with biometric readers were installed in all school buildings.
The devices work simply in practice:

2N IP Verso 

When a parent arrives at the designated time to pick up their child from nursery school, the system lets them into the building automatically by reading their fingerprint. If they arrive at a different time, they can use the bell to call one of the classes and the teacher can let them in using the video application on their smartphone, even if they are in the playground with the children. Saving new fingerprints and cancelling old access authorisation does not require an expert. This can be done easily by the head teacher at the nursery school from their office.

Bakaláři

Technicians integrated the biometric readers with the primary school door intercoms and the Bakaláři online system, which is the most used system for school administration. By scanning a fingerprint, the biometric reader can open doors to the school during lessons and keep attendance records, especially in the case of problematic children, since it is linked to the electronic class register.

Advent

The town installed an electronic access control and attendance system in fourteen buildings. Apart from seven nursery and three primary schools, systems were also installed in three municipal police buildings, the offices of the municipal authority and a primary school specialising in art classes. They do however serve a different primary purpose there, which is keeping employee attendance records. In the case of the municipal police, they also control access to individual rooms.

Thanks to software by Advent, access control data from the biometric reader at the entrance to the building is automatically saved in the HR and payroll system, this being more convenient than previously when employees signed in from their computer.

Result

Thanks to 2N products, reliable protection and security was installed at all the school buildings. In this case, the comprehensive security systems are based on the advantages of IP technology. The advantage of this technology is simple installation and easy administration, which can even be done remotely. Users can gain access to buildings using modern fingerprint technology, or alternatively, by using a video application on a phone or answering unit after ringing the bell. The system also makes it possible to monitor student and employee attendance. For this reason, another benefit was seamless integration of the access control system with the Bakaláři online school administration system and the Advent attendance system.
