What is ISO 27001?

Part of the globally recognized ISO/IEC 27000 family, ISO 27001 specifies requirements for a robust Information Security Management System (ISMS). Its built on the core principles of confidentiality, integrity, and availabilityensuring 2N effectively manages and continuously improves information security risks.

What’s new in the 2023 revision?

While clauses 4–10 remain largely aligned with previous versions, key enhancements reflect today’s increased cybersecurity demands:

  • Annex A update: The security controls in Annex A have been streamlined from 114 to 93, grouped into 4 themes—Organizational, People, Physical, and Technological—with 11 brand-new controls, such as cloud security, threat intelligence, secure coding, and data leakage prevention.
  • Strengthened requirements: improved planning, stakeholder analysis, process interaction mapping, monitoring of objectives, and more structured change-management procedures.
  • Harmonization: The wording and structure now align more closely with other ISO management system standards (via Annex SL), supporting integrated governance.

These changes reflect a moderate—but significant—upgrade tailored to modern IT risks, providing deeper assurance in a shifting threat landscape.

Why this matters

Achieving ISO 27001:2023 not only underscores 2Ns unwavering commitment to security but also:

  • Demonstrates proactive compliance with international cybersecurity benchmarks.
  • Ensures business continuity and trust for our customers and partners.
  • Signals strategic readiness for emerging technologies and cloud-first services.
