Sizes of Spindle and Cylinder for project

In this FAQ article, we'll explain the details of spindles for 2N Fortis Handles and cylinder bodies for the 2N Fortis Cylinders.

Door spindles for handles depend on door thickness, and cylinder bodies depend on the thickness of the door, including the thickness of the rossetes mounted.

Spindle - what size do I need for my project?

Spindle is the part which connects electronic handle with mechanical handle through the door.

The length specified in the details of the spindle for each order number is the required door thickness and NOT the actual length of the spindle.

In reality, the spindle is longer than the door thickness, so the handles can be fixed to the spindle from both sides of the door.

When ordering a spindle, it is required to know the door thickness (B+A dimension as shown in the picture below).

You also need to know how the spindle fits the hole between the handles (7mm, 8mm or 9mm).

Where to measure the door thickness for spindle:

Spindle dimensions.

For example, the Spindle with screws set, 8mm, 75 - 83mm (part no. 1120460883) is for an installation where the door thickness is between 75 - 83mm.

Cylinder - What size do I need for my project?

Cylinder body is the part which allows electronic cylinder and physical knob to fit to the door in the place where usually keys are inserted.

To fit 2N Fortis Cylinder you need special Cylinder body designed to hold it.

When ordering a Cylinder body, it is required to know the thickness of the door, including the thickness of the rossetes (or backplate) mounted to the door.

The parameter specified in the details of the cylinder body is the required length.

Cylinder bodies' length is specified by the OUT (B) and IN (A) sides' length. The OUT side is where the 2N Fortis Cylinder is mounted, and the IN side is where the mechanical knob is usually mounted.

When calculating the dimension B+A as shown in the pictures below, make sure the total length of the 2N Cylinder body does not exceed the B+A dimension of the door (including rosette or backplate) for more than 3mm on both sides.

Where to measure the B+A dimension for Cylinder body (when using rosettes):

Where to measure the B+A dimension for Cylinder body (when using backplate):

Door with backplate

Please note that the rosette for the 2N Fortis Cylinder sold by 2N (order numbers 112047101 and 112047102) is 8mm thick.

For custom rosettes or backplates installed on your door, you need to know its dimensions before you order the Cylinder body.

For example, the Cylinder body 30/40 (part no. 11204313040) is 70mm long, where the OUT side is 30mm long, and the IN side is 40mm long.

In case of using the 2N Fortis Cylinder on both sides, the minimum thickness of the door, including the thickness of the rossetes mounted, needs to be 70mm
You need to order the Cylinder body to match the dimensions.
