2N Student Monitoring System with 2N IP Intercoms

Info This FAQ describes, how you can configure 2N VoiceBlue Next gateway (You can also use 2N VoiceBlue Max, 2N BRI Lite/Enterprise or 2N StarGate and 2N BlueTower as the configuration is basically the same) together with 2N IP intercoms and 2N Access Unit for the school scenario. You can configure the intercom to send SMS message through the gateway as a confirmation that a student has arrived to school. Once student will swipe the card to open the door, SMS to a parent cellphone is sent. Below you can find a step by step configuration for both devices. FW version of 2N IP Intercom has to be v2.16 or higher and for 2N VoiceBlue Next has to be at least v1.26.3. Please keep in mind that even when you have multiple entrances with intercoms, you still need only one gateway! How to configure 2N VoiceBlue Next Note: As the very first step please make sure that the license for Email2SMS feature is uploaded into your 2N VoiceBlue Next gateway. This license is sold as a package for 10 users (you can buy licence for 10, 20, 30, etc. users) and you can have up to 200 licensed users in the gateway. If you want to verify whether you have the correct license uploaded in your gateway, go to section "Management -> License key". You should see the licenses called SMSE and SMSUx and in the "Active" row. SMSE indicates that Email2SMS function is enabled and SMSUx indicates number of licensed users where x stands for this number (see the picture below). If there's not a license for Email2SMS (SMSE) then you won't see the "Messaging" on the top menu. For each intercom you need one Email2SMS licence in the gateway! Configuration steps Modules grouping In the first step go to section "Messaging –> Modules grouping" and enable SMS server – check the appropriate check-box. Next add GSM modules to SMS groups in order to facilitate incoming/outgoing SMS routing. It can be done based on your requirements e.g. according to the GSM provider, etc. The last step in this section is to assign SMS groups created in the previous step to the User groups if you want to use messaging with different routing rules. The GSM gateway can contain up to 4 User groups and up to 4 SMS groups. Add User As a next step you need to skip to the section "Messaging –> Users", click on the "Add" button and create new SMS user(s) who will send and receive SMS messages. There are several parameters in this section which have to be set. You need to select the communication protocol for SMS processing (SMTP/POP3) and assign the user to User group. Also do not forget to define the Login name (without domain) and Password to log into the SMS server via your e–mail client. You can see all parameters from this section in the picture below where was created user "Helios IP" with the login "SMS" and password "Helios". Once you fill in all parameters, click on the "OK" button. The user will be added and after that you have to make one more click to the "Save settings" button in the bottom right corner of the page (blue circle label in the picture). General settings Set the parameters of domain in the "Messaging –> User Group –> General settings" sub-menu. The domain is automatically assigned to the user´s login in the selected User group and it represents the user´s e–mail address. In this section you can also define some parameters for POP3 and SMTP such as subject of email, maximum SMS per email, next you can add “From” field as well as “Subject” to SMS (see the picture below). In our example (in the previous step) a new user was created with login name "SMS". In this section we will set domain as: gateway.com. Then the e-mail address of the user with rights to access the SMS server will be SMS@gateway.com. The “@” character is completed automatically and it is not included in the domain´s field. Outgoing SMS routing As a last step you need to specify routing rules for outgoing SMS – it is done in the "Messaging –> User Group –> Outgoing SMS routing" menu where you click on the "Add" button. In this section you will specify mainly these parameters: Message to SMS group – the SMS group via which the outgoing SMS will be routed Action type – define how to process outgoing SMS. You can choose from two options: Submit from user (SMS can be sent only from selected users) or Submit from all users (enable sending SMS from all the SMS group users). Submit from user – choose a user who can send SMS (this is used only if "Submit from user" was selected) Time limitation - here you can set time limitation for when is the routing active. So for instance you can set this only for morning, when students are arriving to school. Day limitation - choose days when the routing will be active. For instance only business days when school is opened. Note: do not forget to enable the SMS server as shown in the first step (there is a check-box)! In the picture below there is shown settings for User Group 1. Messages (emails) from all users in this User group are routed via SMS group 1. It means that these emails will be transferred to SMS and sent only via GSM modules assigned to SMS group 1. It is GSM module 2 in our example (as you can see in the picture from step 1). How to configure 2N IP intercoms Note: Please keep in mind that Enhanced integration (up to v2.35) or Gold (v2.35 onwards) license is needed in order to use email features! Configuration steps Add user firmware v2.24.0 and later:Go to section "Directory->Users" choose a user or create a new one. Fill "Name" (use name of the student, it will be used in the SMS), "E-mail" (email has to be in format phone_number@domain, so in our case 721642053@gateway.com for instance, number is phone number of the parents cell phone), "Card ID" (fill ID of the students card or fob). SMTP configuration Go to section "Services->E-mail->SMTP" and check "SMTP E-Mail Service Enabled". Then fill "Server Address" (IP address of the gateway) if you did not change port in the gateway, then leave it as it is - port 25. Then fill "Username" and "Password", use credentials you used for user you created in the gateway, in case of Username you have to use domain as well. So credentials for this example are SMS@gateway.com/Helios. In the last step fill some email to field "From Address". As you are sending SMS messages in this scenario, it does not matter what you will fill there, you can even fill there address you made up, however this field is mandatory and has to be filled. SMS configuration Go to section "Services->E-Mail->E-Mail on Access". Fill administrator e-mail address in the section Send to E-mail Address. In this section set "All Accesses" for "Send E-Mail At". To the field "Body" fill the message you want to send when student arrives to school. You can see example in picture below, we used variables $User$ (this variable will be substituted by name of the student who used the card) and $DateTime$ (this variable will add current time and date to the message). Please find list of available variables below: $User$ - Called username $DateTime$ - Current date and time $AuthId$ - User authentication ID $DeviceName$ - Intercom identification Last thing you have to do in this section is uncheck "Attach Snapshot". If you will swipe valid card now, 2N IP Intercom will send and email to the gateway and it will send SMS message to the predefined cell phone. Set time on 2N IP intercom Go to section "System->Date & Time", pick the right "Time Zone" and if possible, you can synchronise the intercom with NTP server. If NTP server is not available, then you can synchronise the intercom with your browser by clicking on "Synchronise with browser". Switch configuration You also need to configure the intercom to open the door once the student swipes a card or fob. Go to section "Hardware->Extenders", find your card reader and again choose on of the switches for "Associated Switch". Once you will set appropriate switch to be controlled by the card reader, then you can configure the switch itself. Go to section "Hardware->Switches" and pick Switch you choose before. If switch is not enabled, then do so by checking "Switch Enabled". There are three the most important settings for the switch. By "Switch-On Duration" you can define for how long the switch will be activated. "Controlled output" define which physical output will be controlled by the switch, you can choose from available relays or active 12V output. By "Output Type" you can define whether you are using normal locks (Normal) or inverted locks (Inverted).

AutoCLIP Routing - How to set in 2N VoiceBlue MAX

What is AutoCLIP? The GSM gateway automatically stores information about outgoing calls to the AutoCLIP routing table. When a person calls back the call is routed directly to the original number. If original number is not available the call is routed to the next number set up in the configuration (e.g. receptionist). How to set in 2N VoiceBlue MAX? Go to Gateway Configuration / GSM Outgoing Groups / Others and set the parameters as follows Time to keep CLIP in the table – set the time duration for which records should be kept in the AutoCLIP routing table. Add record only for an unconnected call – only unconnected outgoing calls (missed calls on a mobile phone) are stored in the AutoCLIP table. Delete record for a connected answer – if the call back is answered, the record in the AutoCLIP table will be deleted. In the AutoCLIP routing table you can see the record of the unconnected call. When the user (737276015) has a missed call and returns the call, he will be directly forwarded to destination 11 as shown in the AutoCLIP routing table and also in the trace bellow.

Firmware Update - How to do firmware update on 2N VoiceBlue MAX?

Visit our website www.2n.com and download FW for 2N VoiceBlue MAX Open web interface of your GW and go to the section Management->Firmware update. Select the FW file you downloaded in the previous step and upload it to the GW. GW will reboot, after reboot you can check in the same section whether the update was successful as you can see the FW version there.

How to setup FXS to GSM calls with VoIP backup on 2N VoiceBlue MAX

In firmware version 1.20 we have changed the way how call routing is set up. This FAQ is going to show you how to setup FXS to GSM calls with VoIP backup in firmware 1.20+ . If you are currently using firmware that is older than version 1.20 (1.19 and lower) please upgrade your firmware version or go here: old routing, where you will find FAQ on how to set this function in older FW version. The four-channel 2N VoiceBlue MAX has 4 FXS ports to connect exchanges or analog phones and also supports connection to VoIP network (via Ethernet port). Let´s imagine the scenario that you want to make calls from analog phones and route these calls to GSM network based on the prefixes (called number). But if the limits on SIM cards is exceeded or all GSM modules are busy, you will want to route these calls to VoIP interface – it means that the VoIP network will be a backup solution for outgoing calls. Note: In this FAQ is assumed that your gateway is properly registered to any device of VoIP provider (another gateway, some PBX, etc.). How to set up backup solution for calls from analog phones in 2N VoiceBlue MAX gateway: First of all it is necessary to specify prefixes which could be dialled. The GSM operators have e.g. in our country prefixes 6 and 7 and the length of the whole number is nine digits.Note: You can also modify the called number in 2N VoiceBlue MAX gateway – for this purpose you can use "Table of replaced prefixes" but it is not shown in the picture below. You can create up to 4GSM outgoing groups, in these you are able to assign SIM cards which will be used for outgoing calls. In the "GSM group assignment" section you can define, which SIM card (GSM module) belongs to which GSM outgoing group. Now you need to create LCR (Least Cost Routing) rules for defined prefixlists. In new LCR table you can have a complete control over how calls are routed through your gateway. You can choose how calls originating at specific port will be routed (to FXS, VoIP or GSM). First you need to choose port of call's origin (in our case all FXS ports) Than you need to choose prefixlist that the called number must match (if called number will not match the prefixlist than LCR table will this line of LCR table and will go to the next record) Last thing you need to choose is where the call will be routed. Usually it is one of the GSM outgoing groups or a VoIP. You can select more options - GSM outgoing group 1 and VoIP where, if all GSM channels in GSM outgoing group 1 are busy or not ready to make a call, the call will be sent to VoIP. Network Trace - How to get Wireshark network trace and network trace from 2N VoiceBlue MAX?

Network trace contains whole communication between IP devices over LAN. In order to analyse what this communication between devices contains, a network trace can be requested. If network trace is requested, please note there are two possible network traces available. Gateway can provide network tracing with limited size on its side, for unlimited network trace of IP communication, external device (usually laptop or PC) equipped with network capture software needs to be used. This article explains how to perform both network trace in such software called Wireshark as well as network trace directly from gateway. How to get Wireshark network trace? How to get network trace from 2N® VoiceBlue Max? How to get Wireshark network trace? Program Wireshark is used for tracing the communication between devices interconnected by LAN. The devices (e.g. PBX connected with a GSM gateway via LAN) send to each other packets which are captured by the above mentioned program. Wireshark is distributed under the Open source licence (http://www.wireshark.org/download.html). Before starting network capture Before Wireshark (or in general, any packet capture tool) is used, careful consideration should be given to where in the network packets are to be captured. In order to capture all the packets which are sent via particular LAN, the devices have to be part of the same network segment (they have to be connected via HUB). If you do not have a hub you can use a switch which supports so called port mirroring (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Port_mirroring). Download Wireshark Obtain a Wireshark package or installer for the operating system running on the system which is to be used for packet capture.Download a binary or installer from http://www.wireshark.org. With installers, ensure all product components are selected for installation. Start Wireshark On a Linux or Unix environment, select the Wireshark or Ethereal entry in the desktop environment's menu, or run "wireshark" (or "ethereal") from a root shell in a terminal emulator. In a Microsoft Windows environment, launch wireshark.exe from program installation folder. Note that on Unix systems, a non-GUI version of Wireshark called "tshark" (or "tethereal") may be available as well, but its use is beyond the scope of this article. Use Wireshark (capture network communication) After starting Wireshark, do the following: Select Capture | Interfaces Select the interface on which packets need to be captured. Now click the Start button to start the capture. Recreate the issue. The capture dialog should show the number of packets increasing. If packets are not being captured, try removing any filters that have been defined. Important: In order to provide us with detailed information about the possible problem with the device, please do not apply any filter and simply capture all the communication during the test (call/smpp/email2sms,etc...). Once the issue which is to be analysed has been reproduced, click on Stop. It might take a few seconds for Wireshark to display the packets captured. Save the packet trace in following format: „File->Save As->Wireshark/tcpdump/… -libpcap(*.pcap;*.cap) .Just click on the File menu option and select Save As.By default Wireshark will save the packet trace in libpcap format. This is a filename with a.pcap extension. Please send saved file to us for analysis. How to get network trace from 2N VoiceBlue Max? Network trace from gateway can be run via menu Utils -> Network capture. The web interface can store up to 4096kB long trace. Network trace can be started by clicking on button START. You will be notified by message "Running..." in capturing status. The Buffer utilisation and Packets captured should show the number of packets increasing. If not, then restart the capture. If Buffer utilisation is on value 4096kB (same as Buffer size), please restart the trace and tests from beginning. Recreate the issue. Once the issue which is to be analysed has been reproduced, click on Stop. Once trace is stopped, you can save it to your computer by clicking on the diskette icon located in bottom right corner of web interface Please send saved file to us for analysis.

Test call - How to make a test call from Softphone to 2N VoiceBlue MAX

Once you have set up 2N VoiceBlue MAX, the simplest way to test basic functionality is to make some test calls from you PC. In this guide you will find the instructions for making a direct call to the 2N VoiceBlue MAX from X-Lite and SJphone X-Lite Configuration In the X-Lite menu Softphone -> Account Setting set up the user account The only important thing which should be set up correctly is Proxy Address; it should be the IP address of the 2N® VoiceBlue MAX. User ID and Domain are mandatory parameters but it does not matter what you fill in these fields. Then just dial number without IP address. For incoming calls it is necessary to set up range of ports allowed for incoming SIP messages. SJphone Configuration In SJphone Options -> Profiles section choose SIP Direct. This account is basically available in default configuration. Dial the number in format sip:called_number@VBM_ip_address Settings on the 2N® VoiceBlue MAX side. The IP address of you PC should be inserted into the SIP Proxy list (Gateway configuration -> VoIP Parameters -> SIP proxy (IP -> GSM) -> Alternative. Note that you can fill in up to 9 IP addresses from which you can receive SIP traffic. If SIP proxy (IP -> GSM) is 0.0.0.0, 2N VoiceBlue MAX can accept SIP traffic from any host. To allow incoming calls from GSM to IP it is necessary to fill in the SIP proxy (GSM -> IP).

Trace - How to get internal trace from 2N VoiceBlue MAX?

Web interface - short trace, just few calls The internal trace can be run via menu Utils -> Report capture. Check in Gateway -> Gateway configuration -> Report configuration that all fields are enabled. Online view for the internal trace is shown in menu Gateway -> Gateway control -> Online report. Telnet client - long trace, "unlimited" The web interface can store up to 512kB long trace. Telnet client allows to use your computer as a storage for a longer trace. Bellow you can find instructions for application Putty. You can also use other telnet capable applications. Putty (www.putty.org) Download and run Putty. Choose Telnet in Connection type and fill in 2N® VoiceBlue MAX's IP address. In Menu Session -> Logging, select Session logging: All session output and choose a file where the trace capture will be saved to. Establish connection with your gateway and fill login. Firmware 1.25+ Firmware 1.24 and older 5. To set the right tracing characteristics use following commands. AT%X91=3F,3,0 - for full calls tracing (including LCR) AT%X92=7,0 - for full SMS tracing AT%X92=0,7 - for full SMPP tracing AT%X92=7,7 - for full SMPP and SMS tracing Combination of commands AT%X91=3F,3,0 and AT%X92=7,7 sets FULL tracing. 6. Use command AT&S. This information is summary about status of inserted cards and modules. 7. Use the command ATI3 and ATI4. Those commands provides information about your gateway and installed licenses. 8. Optional: If we request module restart then do AT&GALL=RESET.9. To start tracing write command AT!RPIf you get BUSY response, run AT!RX first. This command clears previously incorrectly ended trace. 5. To set the right tracing characteristics write the command. AT%S92=31This command sets FULL tracing. 6. Use command AT&S. This information is summary about status of inserted cards and modules. 7. Use the command ATI3 and ATI4. This information is about your gateway and licenses. 8. Optional: If we request module restart then do AT&GALL=RESET. 9. To start tracing write command AT!R2 If you get BUSY response, run AT!RX first. This command clears previously not correctly ended trace. 10. Now you can make test calls and other needed tests. 11.
