Meet the 2N IP Force 2.0, fully in line with the Radio Equipment Directive. Tough, cyber-aware, and ready to protect sensitive spaces with confidence.
Compliance built in
When it comes to security technology, product compliance isn’t just a box to tick; it’s a promise to protect both physical spaces and digital systems. The EU’s Radio Equipment Directive update, which came into effect on 1st August 2025, raises the bar for wireless and radio-enabled devices, making cybersecurity as critical as physical durability.
At 2N, we’re leading the way with the 2N IP Force 2.0—our first door intercom system designed from day one to be fully compliant with the Radio Equipment Directive. Let’s look at what this directive means, why it matters, and how the Force 2.0 delivers where it counts.
What is the Radio Equipment Directive?
The Radio Equipment Directive (RED) is an EU regulation that ensures any radio-equipped device—such as Wi-Fi routers, Smart wearables, internet-connected toys, video intercoms with wireless modules, and generally all IoT equipment—meets stringent safety, electromagnetic compatibility, and cybersecurity requirements.
Cybersecurity is now a vital part of this. A modern intercom is more than a speaker and a touchscreen or button; it’s often connected to a building’s network, cloud services, or integrated access control system. This makes it a potential target for digital threats.
The EU Radio Equipment Directive was designed to reduce such risks by ensuring devices can resist misuse, protect user data, and maintain communication integrity. In high-security environments, this is non-negotiable.
2N is RED Ready - Are you?
At 2N, product compliance is part of our DNA. We’ve embraced the Radio Equipment Directive not only because it’s a legal requirement, but also because it aligns with our mission to build secure and reliable technology and be a trustworthy supplier for our partners.
In our previous blog, “Ready for RED? Complying with the Radio Equipment Directive,” we examined why the updated directive is such a significant milestone for the access control industry. It’s not just about meeting new technical rules; it’s about future-proofing systems against evolving threats, ensuring secure connectivity, and protecting the people who rely on our solutions every day.
The launch of the 2N IP Force 2.0 is a direct continuation of that journey. It is the first device in our portfolio designed to be fully compliant with the Radio Equipment Directive 2025 from the start of production. This compliance applies to all variants of the Force 2.0, including models equipped with RFID readers and the induction loop module, ensuring that every configuration meets the same high standard. For our partners and customers, that means confidence that the system they’re installing is not only physically secure, but also RED-ready from day one.
This focus on cybersecurity compliance applies not only to newly launched products but also to existing products that continue to be marketed and sold. We ensure that all necessary cybersecurity requirements are met, and have discontinued those products that don’t comply. This means the entire 2N portfolio is now fully compliant!
Why Full Compliance Matters
The Radio Equipment Directive 2025 enforces strict requirements to ensure devices are secure by design. In the case of the 2N IP Force 2.0, compliance isn’t just theoretical—it’s supported by concrete features that protect users and installations every day.
For example, the Force 2.0 includes secure boot, where every time the device starts, its software is verified for authenticity at the hardware level, detecting any potential tampering that may have occurred previously. Its secure storage ensures that sensitive data, such as configuration files, user directories, and certificates, is encrypted and protected from unauthorised access.
Firmware integrity is guaranteed through signed software updates—only files signed with 2N’s cryptographic keys can be installed, closing the door to malicious firmware. A built-in password policy further strengthens access control by enforcing password changes during initial setup, reducing the risk of default credential attacks. Additionally, brute force protection ensures that dictionary attacks with lists of commonly used passwords will not succeed.
The Force 2.0 also eliminates unnecessary external interfaces, meaning physical ports used during production or repair are disabled before deployment, minimising an attacker's options when the product is in their hands. Communication on the network is secured using industry-standard protocols, including HTTPS, SIPS, SRTP, and TLS 1.2, backed by cryptographic keys of 112 bits or higher.
Finally, both the software and hardware are continuously updated in line with 2N’s Vulnerability Management Policy, ensuring that no publicly known exploitable vulnerabilities remain unresolved.
Together, these measures demonstrate why the 2N IP Force 2.0 is not only rugged in build, but also RED-ready in cybersecurity—a device aligned with the practical requirements of the EU Radio Equipment Directive.
Where the IP Force 2.0 excels
The 2N IP Force 2.0 is engineered for environments where both physical resilience and cybersecurity are critical. Thanks to its robust design and advanced features, it shines in high-risk settings, such as parking garages, logistics centres, and secured facilities.
The 2N IP Force 2.0 is rated IP69 and IK10, meaning it can resist dust, water, and repeated impacts to an exceptional degree, thanks to its full-aluminium body. Additionally, it features a shatter-resistant dome over the camera, making it the perfect choice for locations prone to vandalism.
The visual performance is elevated, too. The built-in 5MPx camera provides crisp, wide-angle imagery with Wide Dynamic Range, night vision, and adaptive face zooming, allowing visitors to be identifiable in all lighting conditions.
The visuals aren’t the only improvement - with advanced noise cancellation, a high-volume 10W speaker, and automatic audio loop tests, audio communication remains clear even in loud industrial zones.
In addition to its strength, the 2N IP Force 2.0 is also designed with cybersecurity in mind, featuring secure boot, signed firmware, encrypted communication, and access control safeguards that are integral to its core design. The 2N IP Force 2.0 is our first intercom built to be fully compliant with the Radio Equipment Directive from its launch.
FAQs: The Original 2N IP Force and the Radio Equipment Directive
Q: Is the original 2N IP Force affected by the Radio Equipment Directive?
A: The 2N IP Force intercom complies with the RED standard only if it is not used with RFID readers or induction loop modules. For this reason, these accessories have been completely removed from the product range.
Q: What about the RFID readers and induction loop for the first-generation model?
A: These radio modules are affected and do not comply with the EU Radio Equipment Directive—EU customers can no longer purchase them.
Q: When should customers choose the Force 2.0?
A: We recommend the 2N IP Force 2.0 for any new installation requiring compliance with the Radio Equipment Directive 2025. Beyond regulatory requirements, it represents a significant step forward compared to the first generation, featuring a significantly more powerful processor, advanced cybersecurity features, and a substantially improved camera for clearer identification.
Q: Is it possible to retrofit IP Force with IP Force 2.0?
A: Yes, the dimensions and installation accessories are compatible, and it can be easily replaced with the second-generation model.
Q: Are the old RFID readers compatible with the new 2N IP Force 2.0?
A: No. Due to the requirements of the Radio Equipment Directive 2025, the original RFID readers and induction loop module are not compatible with the new model. To ensure full compliance, we have developed brand-new RFID readers and a new induction loop module specifically for the 2N IP Force 2.0.
