We’re Replacing Selected Access Control Readers for Newer Versions

Discover why we’re doing it and how the replacement access control readers make projects more secure

We’re discontinuing selected 2N® Access Unit 2.0 and 2N® IP Verso access control readers, but we will transition smoothly to their successors. The new versions will provide the same features but will also support our new encryption technology 2N® PICard.

What is 2N® PICard?access control reader

2N® PICard is a powerful & flexible two-part solution to manage secured RFID cards.

It’s our unique cryptographic solution built on Mifare DESFire technology, and it gives RFID cards Protected Identity Credentials via secure encryption keys. The solution combines a high level of security with a uniquely simple workflow, which means that you don’t need to be a card format expert to manage and create keys.

Why did we add it to the new access control readers?

To give projects that need RFID cards more security! Access cards are very easy to duplicate - but with 2N® PICard, it’s nearly impossible, thanks to the encryption keys.

How does it work?

This solution works by using a brand-new software, the 2N® PICard Commander, which lets administrators create a new project with a unique keyset for every site - thus maintaining maximum security.

Administrators can encode new credentials via the 2N® PICard Commander using these unique keys, and what’s more, they can also export these keys. This means that they can be transferred to the site and then loaded into the 2N® Access Commander, enabling the site’s readers to read the secured cards pre-prepared by the 2N® PICard Commander.
