Asterisk
Asterisk, developed and maintained by Sangoma Technologies, is the world’s most widely used open-source communications engine. Originating in the United States, Asterisk powers millions of VoIP systems globally, from small business PBXs to large-scale carrier and enterprise deployments. It provides a highly flexible framework for IP telephony, call routing, IVR, conferencing, and SIP endpoint registration and call handling, and is valued for its adaptability, extensive community support, and deep customization through dial plans and modules. Sangoma also offers commercial hardware, support, and enhanced UC products built on top of Asterisk, making it a trusted choice for integrators, service providers, and enterprises that require scalable, standards-based communication systems.

General Description
Asterisk allows 2N IP intercoms and answering units to operate as standard SIP endpoints within the PBX system. The integration enables audio and video calls between 2N devices and internal extensions or external destinations, supports DTMF signaling for remote door unlocking, and leverages Asterisk dial plans for flexible call routing, notifications, and automation workflows.
Support for TLS and SRTP enables encrypted SIP signaling and media streams, while distributed and multi-site deployments allow centralized communication handling for multiple 2N devices. Thanks to its open and protocol-driven architecture, Asterisk enables advanced integration scenarios such as conditional routing, time-based forwarding, automated actions, and custom logic triggered by events from the 2N intercom. -
Issabel
Issabel is an open-source unified communications and IP-PBX platform based on the Asterisk ecosystem, widely used by organizations worldwide for SIP telephony and call management. In a 2N integration scenario, 2N IP Intercoms register directly to Issabel as standard SIP endpoints, allowing intercom calls to be routed to internal extensions, groups or queues. When a call is answered, bidirectional audio communication is established, with video supported on compatible clients, and users can control door opening via the 2N intercom relays during the call, enabling seamless door communication within an Issabel-based telephony environment.
