In the very first step you should read the manual which you can find on 2N Telecommunication website http://www.2n.cz/en/products/m2m/smartcom/downloads/  You can also find there: a leaflet, a presentation, software, firmware. In the section software please find and install 2NSmartCOM (further just SmC) configuration program.  Very important is to use the cable which is attached in the box (version 410100W a 410101W). 2N SmartCom PRO / Factory reset - How to make a factory reset

Factory reset - jumpers:  disconnect 2N SmartCom PRO from the power supply  loosen the screws and remove the upper part of the case    connect the jumper as shown in the figure above (Interconnect pins 3 and 5)  now reconnect the power supply. Upon power up, the Flash memory is deleted and the factory default values are reset for all ports    remember to remove the jumper to avoid deletion of the settings upon every start!        Factory reset - AT command:     at^scfres    following command make the software factory reset. The command only sets the default parameters without deleting the Flash and EEPROM data memories.          Factory reset - SMS:     SC FRES PWD=  send SMS to initiate the terminal factory reset.  you will get a response SMS - "Factory Reset Initialized" and the command will be executed

2N SmartCom PRO - Input circuits

2N SmartCom PRO is equipped with three inputs, which are mutually galvanically connected with the GND reference point (have a common GROUND). The input circuits can work in three modes – voltage, current or logical levels – as configured.  disconnect 2N SmartCom PRO from the power supply before opening the cover  loosen the screws and open the box lid to get access to the PCB jumpers.  The figures below show the location of the current/voltage/S0 switching jumpers:    Note: If you want to use voltage mode and current mode properly, you need to calibrate 10-bits A/D converter connected to the input terminals (IN1, IN2, IN3). But keep in mind that an uncalibrated input is still functional (but can read values less precisely).    Voltage Measurement Voltage can be measured in the range between 0 and 10 V DC. Make sure that the 2N SmartCom PRO jumpers are set as shown in the figure above before using this mode.   Current Measurement Electric current can be measured in the range between 4 and 20 mA. 2N SmartCom PRO can be equipped with M-Bus interface and can collect data from up to 5 M-Bus devices (with extender it can be up to 250 M-Bus devices). This website describe possible scenarios and some examples how to collect and use M-Bus messages with 2N SmartCom PRO. 2N SmartCom PRO can be configured via hyperterminal software or 2N SmartCom Terminal Config software. The SmartCom terminal can be set to a Standalone mode unit or TCP Client mode unit connected to 2N SmartCom Server.In TCP client mode terminals are connected to the server and you can very easily manage them via 2N SmartCom Control Panel software. This functionality is provided by special FW which is distributed on request.   In this FAQ 2N SmartCOM PRO is set for reading data from electricity meter. Electricity meter with RS485 and standard IEC62056-21 support had been used.   RS485 parameters need to be set as the very first step. Difference between Standalone and TCP Client mode in 2N SmartCOM (PRO)

2N SmartCOM (PRO) terminal can be used and configured in two different modes – the first one is "Standalone" mode and the second one is "TCP client" mode. It is important to know when these modes can be used, what the differences between them are and how you can configure them. The main idea of Standalone mode is that 2N SmartCOM works as a server to which clients get connected (transparent TCP – serial port transmission). In TCP client mode 2N SmartCOM connects and retransmits data from its ports to selected server.  Standalone mode Before you start to set the unit to Standalone mode you can just type a command mentioned below this paragraph to double check currently set interface values. The output looks like the one in the next picture. at^sccfg? After that if you need to change a mode in your unit to Standalone, enter one of following AT commands (use serial connection to the terminal via RS-232 cable or Telnet connection via Putty): at^sccfg="mode","standalone" or at^sccfg="mode",3    Then if your unit is in the standalone mode and has been already installed somewhere on remote side it is very useful to access it via IP protocol (for further configuration, relays control, inputs measuring, etc.). In this case it is recommended to use a program (such as Putty or Hyperterminal) which supports Telnet connection to specific IP address and port. Public IP address has to be assigned to your 2N® SmartCOM unit. Once this condition is met you can access three ports which serve different interfaces and have different use:  Port 10000 – thanks to this port you can configure the unit, control the output relays and measure quantities on the input circuits.  Port 10001 – this port works as a data pipe to port RS-232 and retransmits all RS-232 events to GPRS.  Port 10002 – this port is very similar to previous one and works as a data pipe to port RS-485 or M-Bus (depends on the type of unit you have). This port retransmits all RS 485 events to GPRS.  Note: You can also use our program called Smc Terminal Config Program for configuration which is available on our web for free.       TCP client mode 2N SmartCOM in TCP client mode needs to be always connected to 2N SmartCOM Server which collects data from terminal unit and can send them to some 3rd party application via API interface (it is good if you want e.g. graphical outputs from read out units). Once you want to set your terminal to TCP client mode then you have to enter one of two following commands: at^sccfg="mode","tcpclient" or at^sccfg="mode",1   After that you have to specify several other parameters which are necessary for successful interconnection between terminal unit and 2N SmartCOM Server. All these parameters and appropriate commands are described in User Manual (the link below) but the most important commands are also described in this FAQ. 4.2 List of Supported AT Commands a) Set the APN to your mobile provider (for data connection) – there is configuration for O2 CZ in the example: at^sccfg="gprs_apn","internet.open"   b) Set username and password for authentication by the provider (if it is required). For further information about Control Panel and also about Server read our User Manual: Control Panel 2N SmartCOM Server can also help you with FW upgrade for terminal units because it can be done automatically via server. You will just upload the appropriate FW version into a server and then select terminals to which you want to upload this FW. Next you can run e.g. different scripts on the server to read out specified values from terminals.

1. In the very first step you should read the manual, which you can find on 2N Telecommunications website 2. Connect 2N SmartCom PRO ETH version (next just SmC+ETH) via RS232 cable and open 2N SmartCom configuration tool. In case you are using RS232/USB converter you need to use appropriate virtual COM port on your PC. The correct number of this virtual COM port can be found in "Device manager" in your operating system. Default communication Speed is set to 115200bd/s. Once you change speed of RS232, then you will need to "Load configuration" with that speed, see (Pic. 1). Keep in mind all parameters, in enclosed pictures there are only examples.  Pic. 1 3. To configure Ethernet port, go to tab "Ethernet", where you will do all the settings. LED diode has got two modes. Which mode will be used depends on switching "LED signalization" parameter. LED diode is placed close to SIM holder. Now you need to decide whether the SmC+ETH will obtain IP address from DHCP server or set the static IP address, see (Pic. 2).  Pic. 2 4. You have to "Save and restart" the device in order to apply changes in IP settings, (Pic. 3), when LED diode starts shining, the SmartCom is ready to be used again! Select the path to the current firmware file and press Start to initiate the upgrading process, which is signalled by the progress bar below. When the process is completed, the terminal will get restarted.      2N Control panel The Firmware Management menu is used for updating the 2N SmartCom PRO terminal firmware via the 2N SmartCom Server. Select a firmware version and tick off the terminal or group of terminals to be updated to activate the Update button and open the upgrade time setting window. Select a date and time value to schedule upgrade in advance. The terminals that are off-line during the update will be updated as soon as they log in to the  SmartCom Server. SmartCom unit can be configured via RS-232/RS-485 interfaces. The default baud rate is 115 200 bps. This value and other settings of given ports can be easyly modifed. The commands are the same for both interfaces, just enter correct port name to change the values: RS-232 - at^scport1 RS-485 - at^scport2   Connect to the unit via Putty or Hyper Terminal software with default baud rate. Enter +++, now device is ready for operation. Baud rate: at^scport1="baudrate",9600, where 9600 is desired baud rate. The supported values of the baud rate are 110 to 230 400.   Data bits: at^scport1="data_bits",8 where 8 is the value of data bits, supported values are 5 to 8.   Stop bits; at^scport1="stop_bits",2, where 2 is stop bit value, supported values are 0 to 2.   Parity check: at^scport1="parity",3, where 3 is parity check value, supported values are 0 to 4. 0 - none 1 - even 2 - odd 3 - constant 1 4 - constant 0.   Flow control: at^scport1="flowcontrol",1, where 1 means hardware flow control, 0 - no flow control.   After all the settings have been changed do not forget to save it: at^scport1="save". 2N SmartCom PRO unit can be equipped up to two Wireless M-Bus modules. The 868 MHz WM-Bus module can work in four modes: T1, S1, C1 and T1+C. The 169 MHz module works in the N mode and the 433 MHz module in the T1 and C1 modes.   First of all check configuration of 2N SmartCom PRO unit: at^scwmbfilter? If you want to interconnect any ZigBee device with 2N SmartCOM PRO (or 2N SmartCOM PRO ETH) then please double check that your 2N SmartCOM is equipped by ZigBee module! Next keep in mind that 2N SmartCOM PRO (ETH) device supports selected clusters from ZigBee HomeAutomation, so it is strongly recommended to verify which clusters are supported by ZigBee device and check the support of such a device with 2N technical support. Once you checked that you can define up to 16 ZigBee devices which will be saved in the database and 2N SmartCOM PRO can communicate with them. Each device is presented by his own IEEE address (very similar to MAC address of IP devices) which consists of 16 characters – example can be 00:15:bc:00:1d:00:0e:c5.  How to configure 2N® SmartCOM? In this FAQ will be two ZigBee devices interconnected with 2N SmartCOM – the first device is a humidity and temperature meter (STH-03ZB) and the second one is ZigBee remote controlled plug with electricity meter (ZR-PLUG-FR-M). Thanks to this second device you can remotely switch on and switch off the device and also remotely measure the instant active power and the energy spent.  As a very first step you have to connect to 2N SmartCOM via RS-232 serial interface or if you know the public IP address of SIM card then you can configure the device also remotely using the IP protocol (connection via Telnet). After successful connection you can verify if some devices have already been added to the database. Type the command mentioned below to the terminal window. Input circuit - 2N SmartCom/2N SmartCom PRO calibration

2N SmartCOM and 2N SmartCOM PRO terminals are equipped with two inputs which have a common ground (GND). These input circuits can work in three different modes based on the jumper settings – voltage, current or logical levels. The picture below shows the location of jumpers for input switching. For more details you can check user manual for 2N SmartCOM (PRO) – the link is below:   Note: Voltage mode and current mode will be discussed more deeply in this FAQ because if you want to use them properly then you need to calibrate 10-bits A/D converter connected to the input terminals (IN1 and IN2). But keep in mind that an uncalibrated input is still functional (but can read values less precisely).   Input calibration The purpose of calibration is to compensate the inaccuracy of components and external factors. It is a reason why you can´t guarantee that the 960 value of the A/D converter matches exactly 10V in each input. The value usually oscillates slightly around this point. Therefore it is recommended to use 10-bits A/D converter that converts the measured value to a number ranging between 0 and 1023. If you want to calibrate inputs then you have to connect to 2N SmartCOM (PRO) via e.g. Putty and use appropriate AT commands which are described below. Before we start with the configuration via AT commands let´s take a look on an illustrated diagram where is explained how calibration works and how you can use it.   You can see several different lines in the diagram above and each of them have different meaning. Let´s start with the  green  one which indicates that no calibration has been made. The A/D converter works in the whole range and deviations may occur from the actual value measured on the input. Now we can set threshold low to 0V and threshold high to 10V on the input and the terminal will be precisely calibrated for 10V. For 0 on the input, the appropriate AT command (mentioned below) will return 0 value. For 10, we obtain 100 from AT command. Thus, the calibrated input can be considered 0 - 100% of the calibrated range. The  red  lines mean that the input has been calibrated to the interval of 3 to 8V, i.e. to the range of 5V. This range now represents new measurement limits. If you apply 3V or less on the input, you are in the calibrated min area and the AT command will return 0. If you apply 8V or more, you are in the calibrated max area and the AT command will return 100. This means that the measured range width has narrowed by 50% and 0 - 100% is now mapped to the input range of 3 - 8V. The  blue  line is an example of measuring in the calibrated range of 0 to 10V. Once you apply 5V to the input (one half of the calibrated voltage) then AT command will return 50, i.e. one half of the 0 - 100 range again. However if the range was shifted, the value would be shifted too as presented by a   yellow   line. This line shows the case that 7V is applied to the input. In case you measure 7V in the calibrated 10V range, the AT command will return 70 because it is 70% of the calibrated range. But if the range is just 3 to 8V as in the red case, 7V will represent 80% of the calibrated range of 5V and the AT command will return 80.     How to configure 2N SmartCOM (PRO)?  In the very first step (before connecting of load to input circuits) it is necessary to do a calibration of input circuits.  Set the threshold low value – input circuits has to be shorted and then you have to enter to the command line an AT command for automatic port calibration at^scadc1="calib_min". If you want to set minimum value manually then you have to enter following AT command: at^scadc1="threshold_low",x (where X can be a value from 0 – 960)  Set the threshold high value – you have to add the load to the maximum threshold line which should not exceed 10V and set to the command line an AT command for automatic port calibration at^scadc1="calib_max". If you want to set maximum value manually then you have to enter following AT command: at^scadc1="threshold_high",x (where X can be again a value from 0 – 960)  In the last step you have to save calibration by the command: AT^scadc1="save".  Once you set it and do calibration you can check actual values – use the command at^scadc2?  All commands mentioned above are also used in the next picture for better illustration and you can read more about them in the user manual – the link is below:      Finally you can repeat steps above for input 2 (IN2) – you will have to replace command at^scadc1 for at^scadc2. Don´t forget to save the configuration!    Practical usage of the calibration can be e.g. for temperature measurement. If you have thermometer where the temperature is directly proportional to the voltage then you can very easily read out measured values of voltage and trigger some action. Based on these values you are able to decide if you need to cool a room (run fans), if the temperature is in the correct range (fans are off) or if you need to heat the room. The calibration can be done for specific temperature range corresponding to the voltage (let´s say that 28°C = 8V and 10,5°C = 3V). Now you can set that for measured values in the range of 80-100% (24,5°C – 28°C) you need to run a fan or air conditioning. For 40-80% (17,5°C – 24,5°C) are fans off and you don´t need to heat. Finally for 0-40% (10,5 – 17,5°C) you will have to heat in your house. In this case you will have to set threshold high to 8V and threshold low to 3V. User Defined Functions (UDF) - what is it and how to configure it in 2N SmartCOM?

User defined functions (UDF) provides a user–defined set of conditions for 2NSmartCOM terminal that will trigger the set of actions. These conditions must be met to make it possible to send SMS and TCP messages or to set the relay to appropriate position on the given terminal. You can define up to 10 UDF conditions for one 2N SmartCOM terminal. Each condition is evaluated continuously and if it is met (True value) then defined action will be executed. For re-execution, the condition can´t be met (False status) or remain in the set status for a timer-defined period. That´s the reason why SMS will not be sent at every iteration.  How to configure 2N® SmartCOM? First of all you have to connect to 2N SmartCOM via RS-232 serial interface or if you know the public IP address of SIM card then you can configure the device also remotely using the IP protocol (connection via Telnet). Then for the configuration of some conditions and actions in the terminal you have to use specific AT commands. Each AT command must include the condition syntax (sign) ended by the separator “:” and followed by action which will be executed (action type and action parameters). The maximum length of AT command is 80 characters. If you want to do that then you have to type the command below. This command and appropriate output is shown in next picture. at^scudf?    You can see two more AT commands in the picture above which are used once you need to remove the existing condition with selected ID from the terminal memory or to clear complete memory. at^scudf=”remove”,1 ... delete the condition with ID=1 (first row in the table) at^scudf=”clear” ... delete complete memory   Note: important command is the one which displays supported settings options: at^scudf=?   Example #1 Let´s imagine that you have 2N SmartCOM COM terminal which is supplied from standard power adapter (5-50V). Next to that you have also connected there a gel–lead–acid accumulator as a power supply backup. This will ensure that once the terminal loose the power, it is still powered from backup power supply for a while and this power lost can be detected on a specific input (you will use analog input where you can have 0V – 10V). You can be informed about that via SMS. In this example you will monitor the analog input 1 and once the value on this input is lower than 3 (depends on the calibration of A/D converter - check next FAQ on the link below) and it is detected for 300sec then SMS message is sent to GSM number +420777234567.      Example #2 In this example will be described situation when you need to be informed about the situation which occurred repeatedly – five times in this scenario. It can be exceeding of limit value on the second analog input. Let´s set this value to 50 (you can specify different value – it depends on the settings of A/D convertor) and if the current value is higher than this constant then the counter CNT1 increase its value by one. Once this situation occurred five-times the SMS message is sent to your GSM number. In the incoming message you will see also how many times the value was exceeded (total number counted in CNT2). Finally you have to reset the counter CNT1 to the default state (set 0 value). All commands are shown in the picture below.
