2N SIM Star blocks FW upgrade on gateways

If you have some gateways connected to 2N SIM Star Server and you want to make firmware upgrade of any of these gateways directly from PRI config program (BlueTower, StarGate) or via web interface (VoiceBlue Next, new CPU for StarGate and BlueTower), it could happen that you will not be able to do that. You will select the newest FW, upload it to the gateway and see the message, that firmware has been successfully upgraded.  Firmware upgrade via PRI config tool    Firmware upgrade via web interface    Then the gateway will be restarted automatically in order to load new firmware, but after that there will be still the old FW version in the gateway. The reason may be simple – it is because of 2N SIM Star where is uploaded one FW version common for all specific gateways connected to it. Once you will change this firmware file in 2N SIM Star, all gateways connected to it will be upgraded (downgraded) automatically. You can verify the required FW version for a gateway in 2N SIM Star.   Solution for manual upgrade If you want to make FW upgrade manually, you have two options:  Remove uploaded firmware file from 2N SIM Star - this can be done in section "SIM Server –> GW & SB/SC firmware" and then click on the "Remove" button next to the specific firmware file. Once you remove this file, you will be able to make FW upgrade manually on the gateway.   Disconnect your gateway from 2N SIM Star and make an upgrade as shown in the first picture (via PRI config tool or via web interface - it depends on the gateway). But do not connect this gateway back to SIM Star - if you do that, then FW will be upgraded / downgraded to required FW version.

Make sure that your SIP Proxy does not send a count of GSM calls higher than the GSM gateway capacity.  If the frequent SIM card change is set, reduce the maximum count of calls via the GSM gateway – the GSM modules are temporarily unavailable for standard calls while being in the process of recharging (especially the IVR type), virtual incoming calling or SIM replacement.

2N StarGate - Multiple outbound SMS web users

In this FAQ you will see how to configure multiple outbound SMS web users feature on 2N StarGate gateway. There are several important steps which have to be followed for proper settings of this feature.  Introduction and requirements Note: As a very first step please make sure that the license for Multiple outbound SMS web users feature is uploaded into your 2N StarGate gateway. This license is sold as a package for 10 users (you can buy licence for 10, 20, 30, etc. users) and you can have up to 200 licensed users in the gateway. If you want to verify whether you have the correct license uploaded in your gateway, go to section "Management -> License key". You should see the licenses called SMSW and SMSUx in the "Active" row. SMSW indicates that Multiple outbound SMS web users function is enabled and SMSUx indicates number of licensed users where x stands for this number (see the picture below). If there is not a license for Multiple outbound SMS web users (SMSW) then you will not see tab "Messaging" on the top bar!   How to set multiple outbound SMS web users From firmware version 1.25 you can create SMS users which then can access web interface of gateway and login in order to send messages. Please see necessary steps below:  own proper license - SMSW in gateway info needs to be present and you require to have at least one user (SMSUxx)      SMS Server enabled: Yes (checked box) - can be found in Messaging -> SMS Server      user(s) needs to be configured. Can be found in Messaging -> Users  user needs to have associated Access Type either Web - testing or Web     routing for outgoing SMS needs to be configured for user - can be found in Messaging -> User Group x (depends on what user group is used for previously created user - in our example it is group 1) -> Outgoing SMS routing.     Proper SMS group and user needs to be chosen in order to assign GSM modules which will be used for such SMS sending. In our example, we assign user we created to SMS Group 1 and then we assign SMS Group 1 to all GSM modules.    When above steps are done and saved in to gateway, user with defined username and password can login to gateway's web interface and send SMS.

The GSM operator is using prefixes 6 and 7 with a nine digits numbering plan. The setting is below.       You need to create LCR rule for defined prefixes. In default LCR table is setup to send calls from ISDN to GSM. The dialled number must match prefix list 1.       3. Configuration of GSM outgoing groups   You are able to set up different settings for each GSM group (CLIR, free minutes, virtual ring tone, roaming and others).        4. Incoming calls For incoming calls you can define 32 groups (one for each module) with the different behaviour and assign them to the GSM modules. The settings are similar with GSM groups assignment for outgoing calls.   In GSM incoming groups you can define the behaviour for each GSM incoming group. Choose the mode to Reject, Ignore, Accept incoming calls or Callback.   You can define the list of called numbers which will be automatically dialled after DTMF dialling timeout if the customer does not press any button within the specified time. From the configuration you can see 10 seconds for DTMF dialling and after that the call will be routed to the extension 100 (if you set up SIP proxy (GSM->IP) in VoIP parameters).      Avaya Aura Communication Manager settings Configurations of the Communication Manager illustrated in this section were all performed using Communication Manager’s SAT administration interface. It is implied a working system is already in place including a Node for the Session manager and procr.   1. Call routing - Call to GSM number goes over PRI2 interface

If the call which should be dialled to the GSM network from the gateway is forwarded to the PRI2 interface, check the Prefix lists and LCR table settings. The prefixes for call routing to the different destinations (GSM, ISDN/VoIP) have to be set in the Prefix list (Gateway configuration - Prefixes). Then you also have to set the routing steps in the LCR table (Gateway configuration - LCR table). If there is no call routing record found in the LCR table, the call can also be routed to an another interface (Gateway configuration - Port modes, see picture below).

In firmware 1.20 the way call routing was configured has been changed. In this FAQ you are going to find out what is different from previous firmware versions.   On 2N StarGate and 2N BlueTower following changes have been done:  In Gateway configuration there is no longer option to select port modes, where you were able to select how calls incoming from one port should be routed (basically allowing you to route calls from PRI to GSM or VoIP). This setting has been merged into LCR table offering an easier configuration.  LCR table has been redone.  New LCR table allows you to have a complete control over where an incoming call (from VoIP, GSM or PRI interface) should be routed to. On pictures bellow you can see examples of differences between the new LCR table and the old one.  1) Explanation of new LCR table Records in LCR table are read from top to bottom. When a record that matches all conditions is found than the call is going to be sent to outgoing destination specified in that record. Therefore it is important to pay attention to the order in which you have your LCR table records organised!    From (channels/groups) - this parameter specifies where outgoing call originates. In case of Stargate or BlueTower it can be:  all GSM channels  specific GSM incoming group (1-32)  PRI NT interface all channels  PRI NT interface, specific channel (1-31)  PRI TE interface, all channels  PRI TE interface, specific channel (1-31)  VoIP   Prefix list - you must specify either one prefixlist, that the outgoing call number must match, or you can select option All prefixlists, where any outgoing call number that matches at least one prefixlist, will be routed by channel specified under Groups/Tariffs Groups/Tariffs - this parameter specifies if outgoing call should go through a specific GSM outgoing group (1-32), VoIP or PRI interface (NT/TE)  This way you have a better control over how outgoing and incoming calls are handled and routed. Plus it is possible to route incoming calls from GSM back to GSM which was not possible in older firmware version.   2) Default LCR table settings   Firmware 1.20  Firmware 1.19 and older            In default there are 6 records which match the default setting of Port modes and LCR table from firmware 1.19 and older  You need to setup both Port modes and LCR table.     3) Routing outgoing calls from PRI NT interface and VoIP based on prefix lists (2 outgoing GSM groups with 2 prefix lists), incoming calls are left in default   Firmware 1.20  Firmware 1.19 and older                Calls coming from PRI NT interface (lines 2-4) are routed based on prefix lists.  if there is a match in prefix list 1, the call is sent over GSM outgoing group 1  if there is a match in prefix list 2, the call is sent over GSM outgoing group 2  if dialled number does not match prefix list 1 or 2, or there are no free channels in GSM outgoing group 1 or 2, the call is sent to PRI TE interface    Calls coming from VoIP (lines 6-8) are routed based on prefix lists:  if there is a match in prefix list 1, the call is sent over GSM outgoing group 1  if there is a match in prefix list 2, the call is sent over GSM outgoing group 2   if dialled number does not match prefix list 1 or 2, or there are no free channels in GSM outgoing group 1 or 2, the call is sent to PRI TE interface   First you need to change Port modes to match your desired scenario (top picture above) and than you need to create 2 rules in your LCR table to match your scenario.     4) Incoming call from GSM group 2 (matching prefix list 2) will be routed back to GSM through GSM outgoing group 1. Every other incoming call from GSM will be sent to PRI TE interface. Everything else is left in default.   Firmware 1.20  Firmware 1.19 and older    Sending incoming calls from GSM back to GSM was not possible  On picture above you can see how to set a scenario where all incoming calls from GSM incoming group 2should be sent back to GSM through GSM outgoing group 1 (if dialled number will match Prefix list 2)  Sending incoming calls from GSM back to GSM was not possible    Sending incoming calls from GSM back to GSM was not possible  On the picture above you can see how to set described scenario. If you want to allow AutoCLIP routing for calls from GSM, go to GSM incoming groups and set following parameters:  Time to keep CLIP in table to number of hours during which you want to keep a record in the memory (it has to be higher than 0 in order to activate this feature).  Check Add record only for unconnected call in case if you want to use this feature when a called person does not answer a call.  Check Delete record for connected answer in case if you want to delete record when a such missed call (mentioned in point 2) is answered and connected to the correct extension.

Connection via HyperTerminal - How can I connect using HyperTerminal?

HyperTerminal is a program included in Windows. You can find it in menu Start > All programs > Accessories > Communication. For connection to the gateway using COM port you should set following parameters:  Bitrate set to 57600  Flow control set to none  Rest of values will stay default  Second option is to use TCP/IP connection. When you use TCP/IP, you have to use port 23 for the communication with the gateway.

Connection via Putty - How can I connect using Putty?

Putty.exe is a freeware which you can easily download from the internet. For connection over serial cable:  click on checkbox "Serial"  set up COM port, to which is the gateway connected. If you do not know to which COM port is the gateway connected, you can check:  right click on "My computer" -> Properties -> Hardware -> Device Manager -> Ports (COM a LPT)  Setup Speed 57600  in left menu Logging -> check "All session output" -> "Log file name:" choose file to which the entire text will be saved  Click "Open"  Now type to the terminal command:"AT" (without quotation mark) to see if serial communication is established. CPU should answer "OK" For connection over telnet: The procedure is the same. Only click to Telnet and fill in the IP address of the CPU

Connect to the gateway by using HyperTerminal or Putty and send at command at&gXX=XTDussd, where XX stands for number of GSM module and ussd for the command. Example: you want to check credit on GSM module g08 and the command is *101#. You will enter following at&g08=XTD*101#

To get this functionality you have to set in the PRI configuration tool the proper Mode of switching SIM card. Go to the menu Gateway configuration > GSM outgoing groups > Mode of switching SIM card and select one of following:  By time and limit; then SIM 1  Random and limit; then SIM 1     See the complete description of modes below. Mode of switching SIM card defines how the SIM cards will be used in the selected GSM group  SIM # - the SIM cards in the position # will only be used in the selected GSM group. In this case the Maximum called minutes and Disconnect call parameters are disabled (calling without any limitations).  By time - the SIM card will be switched according to the Time of use parameter and call timer limitations.  Random - the SIM card will be switched randomly at defined time intervals and according to call timer limitations.  By time and limit; then SIM card 1 - the SIM card will be switched according to the Time of use parameter and call timer limitations. After exceeding free minutes is SIM switched to SIM1. SIM1 is used for incoming and outgoing calls. Next SIM with free minutes will be switched regarding set time intervals. After exceeding free minutes on all SIMs, SIM1 will be used for incoming and outgoing calls.  Random and by limit; then SIM1 - the SIM card will be switched randomly at defined time intervals and according to call timer limitations. After exceeding free minutes is SIM switched to next SIM with free limit. After exceeding all SIMs, SIM1 will be used for incoming and outgoing calls.

Free minutes - I want to use only free minutes on my SIM cards. What should I set it?   It is possible to configure free minutes for SIM cards in all positions. If you want to do that, you should go to Gateway Configuration > GSM outgoing groups and follow these steps:  Mode of switching SIM cards has to be set to By time or Random.  Free minutes has to be set (the field where you place free minutes is marked by red circle) for all used SIM cards (you can move between them by choosing proper tab marked by blue circle).     When all minutes are used for all SIM card. SIM 1, we stay connected to the network but outgoing calls will be disabled.

Yes, it is correct, however it also depends on the Mode of switching SIM card settings (Gateway configuration > GSM outgoing groups > Mode of switching SIM card). Hardware - How to upgrade older 2N StarGate to the latest HW version

BE AWARE! First check if your current gateway can be upgraded with the latest HW CPU version! (section 1 below)   1) Check rack To find out if your current gateway is compatible with new hardware you need to check the rack of your gateway. Take cards on position 3 and 4 from the right side (side where power button is located) out of the gateway . Check that your gateway's rack does have a jumper field inside it as you can see on the picture bellow   If your gateway does not have a jumper field you will not be able to upgrade your gateway's hardware. If you want to have 2N Stargate with newest firmware version please contact your business representative and buy a new gateway.    2) Check your current hardware's compatibility with M202 CPU version Go to our FAQ pages where you can find information of your current hardware's compatibility with new M202 CPU version (FAQ page is here Check hardware's compatibility). Check if all of your currently used cards are compatible with M202 CPU version. Mainly check versions of your VoIP card and your PRI card. If any of your cards are not compatible with M202 CPU version you will need to buy replacements for them. Otherwise you won't be able to use parts of your system.   3) Install new hardware  Turn gateway off and remove CPU card together with any other card that is not compatible with M202 CPU version. For example AUX card is no longer being used in the gateway at all.  Set jumpers inside your gateway's rack to the same position as you can see on image bellow     Insert your new CPU card and all other cards that you have bought together with it and start the gateway. On picture below you can see position of plug-in cards with CPU version M202 (in case you don't use VoIP card or PRI card look into device manual at 2.3. Gateway Rack Position)    Connect Ethernet port on your CPU card to your network. Connect also your VoIP card if you are using gateway for VoIP communication.  If you are using PRI card for calling connect it to your PBX.  Insert sim cards into your gateway and connect antennas to your GSM cards.    4) Gateway configuration Stargate with M202 CPU version can be configured via graphical web interface or alternatively over Telnet.   Configuration of gateway via PRI config tool is no longer supported.

If you set everything according to this FAQ and you are unable to make outgoing calls check our FAQ on how to route incoming calls according to called number (Routing to GSM/UMTS - SIM selection based on called number)  SIP trunk It is possible that the number you are calling does not match numbering plan that is currently in your gateway and gateway rejects your call.   You can connect all of our GSM gateways to any SIP based IP PBX. There are 2 ways you can connect your GSM gateway to your IP PBX – via SIP trunk or via SIP proxy To connect your gateway via SIP trunk to your IP PBX go into Gateway configuration -> VoIP parameters and scroll down to the bottom of the page where you will find table of IP addresses. Fill in the table according to a picture below, where:  VoIP board is IP address of your VoIP card (if you don’t already have it set)  SIP proxy (IP->GSM) is IP address of your IP PBX. Specify port on which your gateway is listening for SIP communication (in default 5060)  SIP proxy (GSM->IP) is IP address of your IP PBX. How to set a call simulation on 2N SIM Star Server?

Call simulation   In order of proper function of this feature you have to set phone numbers of your SIM cards. Set the phone number for each SIM either manually in the SIMs / SIM edit section or by uploading the number database in the SIMs / Action menu.   The call simulator provides the automatic generation of outgoing or incoming calls. If this function is activated, the system automatically (according to the predefined rules in each SIM group) sets up calls between the GSM modules. These modules could be in one gateway or can be distributed in several gateways. There are three different types of call simulation which can be used:  Simulation between own SIM cards – calls are limited only on active SIM cards which are assigned to one specific SIM group. These SIM cards can be logged in one gateway or as well in several gateways in different locations (based on the gateway´s settings).   Use external recipients – dialed numbers for call simulation are used from predefined list of called numbers (you have to fill them in as “External recipients”). You can use all digits (0 – 9) and one special character “?” which is used for random digit.   Associated with another SIM group – possibility to merge one SIM group with another one (calls within more SIM groups). Settings will be used from assigned SIM group which is “master group”.  If you want to set one of these modes for calls simulation in your 2N SIM Star Server, you have to go to section “SIM Groups” and then click on the “Edit” button of selected SIM group (section for the call simulation is at the end of this page).  There are many parameters that can be specified in call simulation section. All these parameters are described below in the following picture:     Simulator – in this row you can choose one of the call simulation modes     Associated group – this parameter is used only for “Associated with another SIM group” mode. You can specify here the name of master SIM group (settings will be used from this assigned SIM group).     Use in time x – there are 4 time intervals for activate call simulations. You can specify here the days for these intervals, when the call simulation will be active and of course you can specify the time. These time intervals are important for next parameters. You can use only one interval e.g. for whole 24 hours (set the time from 00:00 – 24:00) or you can split the time into more intervals (e.g. to 3 intervals as you can see in the picture above).     Maximum calls at once – this parameter specify the maximum number of simulated calls for each time interval (0= unlimited)     Call delay [min] – in this field you can specify the minimum delay between two simulated calls for each time interval. This parameter is valid for whole SIM group.     Call delay - SIM[min] – in this field you can specify the minimum delay between two simulated calls for one SIM card (which is logged to the GSM module).     Answer calls [%] – you can set here the minimum percentage of picked up calls. (The others calls will remain unanswered – only ring). In the example above 70% of calls have to be picked up.     Ring time [s] – length of call ringing before the call is picked up. You can set specific time (both values are the same) or you can use an interval for ringing time (the second value has to be higher than the first one). In the example above the calls will be ringing 1 – 10 seconds.     Call time [s] – length of connected calls (it means for how long is the call active). You can also set the specific value for this parameter or you can use time interval.     External recipients – this parameter is used only for “Use external recipients“. You can fill in the list of external called party numbers. Character “?” will be used for random number (0-9). E.g.: with string 606 789 12? will be CPNs 606 789 120 – 606 789 129. You can also use more “?” characters in one number – 777 12? ??? (then the CPNs will be 777 120 000 – 777 129 999).     Gateway settings Next step is to set the maximum number of GSM channels that will be used for call simulation in one time. You have to fill in this value for all gateways that will be used for call simulation. Go to section “Gateways –> Call Simulation –> Maximum channels”.     Simulation status Verify the status of virtual call simulation in “Simulation status”. This feature is found in section “SIM Groups -> Simulation status”. You can see there all necessary things – time, when the call was established, ring time, call time, SIM group ID, calling and called numbers and also number of GSM channels and ID of gateway.

INIT status - What is necessary to check, if INIT led light on VoIP card shines red?

This guide is for VoIP card, which is identified in Diagnostics window as VIP172. If the gateway is new or if you are rebuilding the gateway from ISDN to VoIP, please check following:  Jumper field:   MAC address for VoIP card. Check with the configuration tool in Gateway control/Terminal. There you should send ati4 command. If the response has DspAddr equal to 00–00–00–00–00–00, send the ati4 output to Technical Support and we will provide you with the MAC address.  If the VoIP card was running and then stopped working, please check following  In Gateway configuration/System parameters that Gateway Protocol is set to VoIP (for firmware 2.30.03xx and lower)  In Gateway configuration/VoIP parameters that VoIP card IP address is set in VoIP card/MGCP gatewa y (if you change the IP, then restart of the gateway is recommended)  If the VoIP card is does not work, try to upload again VoIP card firmware (you can obtain the firmware at Technical Support)  Firmware is uploaded over LAN via CPU card IP. First allow remote upgrade in Gateway configuration/System parameters with Enable upgrading FW through Ethernet. If the gateway is behind NAT, you will need to open the port 2222 or the port which you set there. After computer starts, you will get this screen. You can choose from multiple boot options. Automatically Install new system graphical is first option. Please choose it and press Enter to confirm.   On next screen, please choose to Discard all data on hard-drive and continue by clicking on Yes, discard any data button   Please make sure you are installing 2N® SIM Star server to dedicated hard-drive and therefore you will not loose any important data.    We will use all space of hard-drive, please choose this option on next screen and click on Next button.       Installation will start.     Please wait till installation finish. After reading this guide you will be able to configure the gateway to process calls to/from the GSM network. The FAQ applies for following GSM/UMTS gateways:  2N BlueTower (2 to 8 GSM/UMTS channels)   2N StarGate (2 to 32 GSM/UMTS channels)   Product basics:  VoIP (SIP over TCP/UDP) / ISDN (DSS1) ↔ GSM/UMTS gateway  Up to 8 (2N BlueTower) or 30 (2N StarGate) simultaneous calls from/to any interface of the gateway  Up to 8 (2N BlueTower) or 32 (2N StarGate) GSM/UMTS modules with 1, 4 or 8 SIM cards per one GSM/UMTS module  Optional support of the SMS messaging over Email and SMPP protocols (additionally licensed features)  Optional support of the SNMP network monitoring protocol (additionally licensed feature)         1) Hardware setup  Gateway - unpack the chassis from the shipping box and install it on an appropriately dry and climatised location.  Cables  Power supply cable - use attached power supply cable or a 3 pins power supply cord (designed for 100–240V AC/50-60Hz) with an independent grounding wire. If your device stop working approximately one month after you started using it, then your trial licenses has expired and you will need a new one. For new licenses please contact your 2N StarGate or    2N BlueTower    supplier.  First thing you need to know for correct licensing of your gateway is whether you have an old or a new CPU. You can find it out from the serial number of your CPU.  Old CPU have serial number that begins with M112-XXXXXXXXXX   New CPU have serial number that begins with M202-XXXXXXXXXX   How to find out the serial number of your CPU and eCPU is described in the section "  Where can I find my CPU and eCPU serial number?".     New CPU In case you have the new CPU, then please follow steps below.  Where can I find my CPU and eCPU serial number? CPU serial number - can be found on our home page after you enter the CPU IP address to your web browser and login.  eCPU serial number - can be found on our home page after you open the web configuration tool. On a picture below is the eCPU serial number marked by red square. If you can not see "Basic CPU" serial number it means that the license has already expired.    How can I upload the licenses to my gateway? After requesting the licenses you should get one license key or license file for CPU (from FW 1.12.0) and one license file for eCPU. License key or license file (for example string: "  BFE5A17AAF0000  " or file "GW_licence.key") - this is a CPU license. For uploading this license key open web configurator and go to Management -> Licence key. Here in "Licence type" choose Licence key file or Licence key string according to the received license. Then enter the license and your CPU should be active again.  License file (for example: "08-1857-0002.key") - this is a eCPU license. For uploading this license open the web configuration tool and go to section Management -> License and upload here the license file. After this you should see that your license is active again.  Last thing you have to do for proper function of your gateway is to set CPU IP address in eCPU part of the gateway. You can do this in the web configuration menu, where you go to Management -> Gateway CPU. Here enter the correct CPU IP address and login information.     Old CPU In case you have the old CPU, then please follow steps below. Where can I find my CPU and eCPU serial number? Network trace contains whole communication between IP devices over LAN. In order to analyse what this communication between devices contains, a network trace can be requested. If network trace is requested, please note there are two possible network traces available. Gateway can provide network tracing with limited size on its side, for unlimited network trace of IP communication, external device (usually laptop or PC) equipped with network capture software needs to be used. This article explains how to perform both network trace in such software called Wireshark as well as network trace directly from gateway.   How to get Wireshark network trace? How to get network trace from 2N StarGate / 2N BlueTower?  How to get Wireshark network trace?  Program Wireshark is used for tracing the communication between devices interconnected by LAN. The devices (e.g. PBX connected with a GSM gateway via LAN) send to each other packets which are captured by the above mentioned program. Wireshark is distributed under the Open source licence (Wireshark download).  Before starting network capture  Before Wireshark (or in general, any packet capture tool) is used, careful consideration should be given to where in the network packets are to be captured. In order to capture all the packets which are sent via particular LAN, the devices have to be part of the same network segment (they have to be connected via HUB). If you do not have a hub you can use a switch which supports so called port mirroring (Port mirroring).   Download Wireshark  Obtain a Wireshark package or installer for the operating system running on the system which is to be used for packet capture.Download a binary or installer from http://www.wireshark.org. With installers, ensure all product components are selected for installation.   Start Wireshark On a Linux or Unix environment, select the Wireshark or Ethereal entry in the desktop environment's menu, or run "wireshark" (or "ethereal") from a root shell in a terminal emulator. In a Microsoft Windows environment, launch wireshark.exe from program installation folder. Note that on Unix systems, a non-GUI version of Wireshark called "tshark" (or "tethereal") may be available as well, but its use is beyond the scope of this article.   Use Wireshark (capture network communication) After starting Wireshark, do the following:  Select Capture | Interfaces  Select the interface on which packets need to be captured.  Now click the Start button to start the capture.  Recreate the issue. The capture dialog should show the number of packets increasing. If packets are not being captured, try removing any filters that have been defined.  Important: In order to provide us with detailed information about the possible problem with the device, please do not apply any filter and simply capture all the communication during the test (call/smpp/email2sms,etc...).  Once the issue which is to be analysed has been reproduced, click on Stop. It might take a few seconds for Wireshark to display the packets captured.  Save the packet trace in following format: „File->Save As->Wireshark/tcpdump/… -libpcap(*.pcap;*.cap) .Just click on the File menu option and select Save As.By default Wireshark will save the packet trace in libpcap format. This is a filename with a.pcap extension.    Please send saved file to us for analysis.     How to get network trace from 2N StarGate / 2N BlueTower?  Network trace from gateway can be run via menu Utils -> Network capture. The web interface can store up to 4096kB long trace.   Network trace can be started by clicking on button START. You will be notified by message "Running..." in capturing status. The Buffer utilisation and Packets captured should show the number of packets increasing. If not, then restart the capture. If Buffer utilisation is on value 4096kB (same as Buffer size), please restart the trace and tests from beginning.   Recreate the issue.  Once the issue which is to be analysed has been reproduced, click on Stop. Once trace is stopped, you can save it to your computer by clicking on the diskette icon located in bottom right corner of web interface   Please send saved file to us for analysis.

This time interval has to be set for all inserted SIM cards (SIM 1 - SIM x).With such a configuration 3:59 is minimal interval for switching SIM card and 4:01 is maximal interval for switching SIM card. Thanks to this settings SIM cards will be switched approximately every four hours.

SIM card - What to check if SIM card does not log to GSM network?

Check if your SIM card is PIN protected. You can disable PIN protection on the SIM card itself or set PIN in PRI configuration tool in menu Basic parameters.  Check if you have correct SIM identification set. You can do that in the menu Gateway configuration > GSM basic parameters > SIM card number. Correct value is IMSI.  Check if you have inserted SIM card to the right SIM holder position.  Try the SIM card in different GSM / UMTS. In case that there works, then the problem is probably hardware oriented.  In case that nothing helps, send us a trace of GSM module reset. To reset the module you have to connect to HyperTerminal, run AT command at&gxx=reset (where xx is number of module), start a trace and let it run for at least 5 minutes.  In case of UMTS network you should check UMTS module band and priority settings. You can set it in Gateway configuration > GSM basic parameters > Use network and Searching priority.  Check the roaming status of SIM card. In case that SIM card is not used in its home network, you can allow connection to another network in Gateway configuration > GSM outgoing groups > Roaming enabled for network and fill the code of presently used network instead of your home network.

Please note that 2N gateways   do not support    MMS   messages sending/receiving.   This FAQ applies for following gateways:  2N BRI Lite, 2N BRI Enterprise (2 channels)  2N VoiceBlue Next (2 or 4 channels)  2N VoiceBlue MAX (4 channels)  2N BlueTower (2 to 8 channels), 2N StarGate (2 to 32 channels).  SMS parameters:  Sending speed - approx. 10 SMS/minute/GSM module (the speed depends on the local conditions of the specific GSM operator, there is no limitation from 2N side)  Support of long SMS (over 160 characters), UTF-8/UTF-16 coding and special characters (Chinese, Arabic, Hebrew...) There are a few different versions of the SMPP protocol, 2N GSM/UMTS gateways support the most common versions 3.3 and 3.4. This protocol has been developed as a worldwide standard for the SMS messages exchange in the core networks of GSM operators and therefore is very suitable for heavy SMS messaging applications where you need to get the best possible messaging speed performance.   You can use one of various existing commercial SMPP applications such as Diafaan SMS Server (FAQ: SMPP connection - How to connect Diafaan SMPP server ), ActiveXperts SMS Server (FAQ: SMPP connection - How to connect ActiveXperts SMPP server ), Inetlab.SMPP or Logica OpenSMPP (FAQ: smpp-connection-how-to-connect-logica-smpp-server ).  Alternatively you can implement it by your own to your own proprietary application. Please note that the GSM modules can be used for SMS messaging only when the direct module access is being used.  This SMS messaging way is completely at your own risk without any 2N support.    All necessary AT commands are described in the AT commands set manual of the specific manufacturer. These manuals have to be usually obtained directly at the manufacturer. 2N gateways can be equipped by following GSM/UMTS modules: Cinterion MC55i-w, Telit GE910, Telit HE910-EUR.     5) 3rd party software details A 3rd party software compatible with 2N gateway can be easily used. So far we have successfully tested the SMS Tool Server 3 application which uses the direct access to the GSM modules (as referred in 4) GSM/UMTS module AT commands details). The 2N gateway behaves from the point of view of the SMS Server Tool 3 as a regular GSM modem. This application allows you to input the SMS messages from a source database file, this database can be filled manually or from a web interface (using a PHP script you will write by your own).  Please note that the GSM modules can be used for SMS messaging only when the direct module access by a 3rd party SW is being used. First of all you can read a brief introduction how these features work and after that there are several important steps which have to be followed for proper settings of this feature:  Set the GSM gateway to send/receive SMS via SMTP/POP3  Define the routing rules for incoming and outgoing SMS messages  Check the GSM gateway SMS database filling capacity  Set an email of the client (MS Outlook) for sending and receiving emails   Introduction and requirements Note: As a very first step please make sure that the license for Email2SMS feature is uploaded into your 2N StarGate gateway. This license is sold as a package for 10 users (you can buy licence for 10, 20, 30, etc. users) and you can have up to 200 licensed users in the gateway. If you want to verify whether you have the correct license uploaded in your gateway, go to section "Management -> License key". You should see the licenses called SMSE and SMSUx in the "Active" row. SMSE indicates that Email2SMS function is enabled and SMSUx indicates number of licensed users where x stands for this number (see the picture below). If there is not a license for Email2SMS (SMSE) then you will not see tab "Messaging" on the top bar!   2N StarGate can be configured to resend email messages from the PC to any address (GSM numbers) in the form 734123456@domain.com. The subject and the body of the email will be sent as one or more SMS messages to the mobile number e.g. 734123456 showing the 2N StarGate user as the sender. On the other hand, if the user sends a SMS from his mobile phone to the SIM inserted in the 2N StarGate gateway, the SMS will be sent to the user´s email account associated with the gateway. The figure below shows sending/receiving SMS via SMTP/POP3. When having created user accounts in the gateway, the users can access the accounts via the e-mail client and send SMS messages to the gateway via SMTP. The gateway receives the messages and re-sends them to the GSM users (mobile phones) according to the predefined routing rules. A message coming to 2N StarGate from GSM is routed according to the incoming SMS rules and delivered to the user´s email account via POP3.     Configuration steps  Modules grouping In the first step go to section "Messaging –> Modules grouping" and enable SMS server – check the appropriate check-box. Next add GSM modules to SMS groups to facilitate incoming/outgoing SMS routing. It can be done based on your requirements e.g. according to the GSM provider, etc. The last step in this section is to assign SMS groups created in the previous step to the User groups if you want to use messaging with different routing rules (e.g. to different company departments). The GSM gateway can contain up to 4 User groups and up to 32 SMS groups (yellow circle in the picture below). Note: in this section you can also enable AutoClip routing for SMS. Set the maximum time for which the automatic SMS routing record (response) will be saved in the AutoCLIP table. It means that once you send an email to some specific GSM number (734123456@domain.com) and after some time the mobile user responds to this message and sends SMS message to SIM card inserted in the GSM module from which the email was previously sent, then this message will be automatically resent directly to the user who sent the email. In the example below GSM modules 0, 1, 2, 3 and 4 were added to SMS group 0 and only users from User group 1 can use these modules (for incoming and outgoing SMS routing).     Add User As a next step you need to skip to the section "Messaging –> Users", click on the "Add" button and create new SMS user(s) who is going to send and receive SMS messages. There are several parameters in this section which have to be set. You need to select the communication protocol for SMS processing (SMTP/POP3 ) and assign the user to User group. Also don not forget to define the Login name (without domain) and Password to log into the SMS server via your e–mail client. You can see all parameters from this section in the picture below where was created an user "Test Account" with the login "Test" and password "test123". Once you fill in all parameters click on the "OK" button. The user will be added and after that you have to make one more click to the "Save settings" button in the bottom right corner of the page (blue circle label on the picture).     General settings Set the parameters of domain in the "Messaging –> User Group –> General settings" sub-menu. The domain is automatically assigned to the user´s login in the selected User group and represents the user´s email address. In this section we will set domain as: gateway.com. Then the email address of the user with rights to access the SMS server will be Test@gateway.com. The “@” character is completed automatically and is not included in the domain field.     Incoming SMS routing Now specify the routing rules for incoming SMS messages – this is done in the "Messaging –> User Group –> Incoming SMS routing" menu where you click on the "Add" button. There are several parameters which can be set or modified (see the picture below). Three most important ones are:  Message from SMS group – select the SMS group that receives SMS messages  Action type – specify how incoming messages will be processed. Deliver to user – this field is used only if you have selected "Deliver to user" in the previous step. Here receives the SMS the user previously defined. SMS routed directly to one user´s email accountIn the picture below you can see that each message which is received on GSM modules assigned to SMS group 0 (in our case these are GSM modules 0, 1, up to 4 – set in the 1st step) is routed directly to the user "Test Account". It means that once you send a SMS to the SIM cards inserted in one of the GSM modules 0 - 4, this SMS will be converted to the email and sent to the email account Test@gateway.com. You can also specify the time and day when this routing rule is going to be active. Once you finish the configuration, click on the "OK" button and after that on the "Save settings" button.    SMS routed based on the AutoCLIP routing tableSometimes it is not desirable to send all received SMS messages to one user but you require to send SMS messages based on the AutoCLIP routing table records. Only if there is no record in this table for incoming message then you can forward the message to one specific user. The settings is shown below – firstly 2N StarGate tries to deliver SMS message based on the AutoCLIP routing and if there is no record for incoming GSM number then the SMS message is sent to the Receptionist´s email account.          Outgoing SMS routing As a first step you need to specify routing rules for outgoing SMS – it is done in the "Messaging –> User Group –> Outgoing SMS routing" menu where you click on the "Add" button. In this section you will specify mainly these parameters:  Message to SMS group – the SMS group via which the outgoing SMS will be routed  Action type – define how to process outgoing SMS. You can choose from two options: Submit from user (SMS can be sent only from selected users) or Submit from all users (enable sending SMS from all the SMS group users).  Submit from user – choose a user who can send SMS (this is active only if "Submit from user" was selected)  Note: don not forget to enable the SMS server as shown in the first step (there is a check-box)! In the picture below there is shown the setting for User Group 1. Messages (emails) from all users in this User group are routed via SMS group 1. It means that these emails will be transferred to SMS and sent only via GSM modules assigned to SMS group 1. It is GSM module 2 in our example (as you can see in the picture from step 1).      Configuration of Microsoft Outlook Follow the steps in pictures below. In step 10, you have to fill Name (choose name of account), Email address (fill the address which you created in gateway in previous part, for this example it is Test@gateway.com), server of incoming and outgoing mail (fill IP address of the gateway), Username (same as email address) and password (fill password which you created in gateway in previous part, for this example it is test123) Continue to step 13, there you have to fill username and password again, it is same like in step 10 (Test@gateway.com and test123). After you will press on "next" in step 15, new window will pop up and all you have to do is press "Finish". Now you can start using sms2email feature.

In this FAQ you will see how to configure Email2SMS and SMS2Email feature on 2N StarGate gateway. First of all you can read a brief introduction how these features work and after that there are several important steps which have to be followed for proper settings of this feature:  Set the GSM gateway to send/receive SMS via SMTP/POP3  Define the routing rules for incoming and outgoing SMS messages  Check the GSM gateway SMS database filling capacity  Set an email of the client (MS Outlook) for sending and receiving emails   Introduction and requirements Note: As a very first step please make sure that the license for Email2SMS feature is uploaded into your 2N StarGate gateway. This license is sold as a package for 10 users (you can buy licence for 10, 20, 30, etc. users) and you can have up to 200 licensed users in the gateway. If you want to verify whether you have the correct license uploaded in your gateway, go to section "Management -> License key". You should see the licenses called SMSE and SMSUx in the "Active" row. SMSE indicates that Email2SMS function is enabled and SMSUx indicates number of licensed users where x stands for this number (see the picture below). If there is not a license for Email2SMS (SMSE) then you will not see tab "Messaging" on the top bar!   2N StarGate can be configured to resend email messages from the PC to any address (GSM numbers) in the form 734123456@domain.com. The subject and the body of the email will be sent as one or more SMS messages to the mobile number e.g. 734123456 showing the 2N StarGate user as the sender. On the other hand, if the user sends a SMS from his mobile phone to the SIM inserted in the 2N StarGate gateway, the SMS will be sent to the user´s email account associated with the gateway. The figure below shows sending/receiving SMS via SMTP/POP3. When having created user accounts in the gateway, the users can access the accounts via the e-mail client and send SMS messages to the gateway via SMTP. The gateway receives the messages and re-sends them to the GSM users (mobile phones) according to the predefined routing rules. A message coming to 2N StarGate from GSM is routed according to the incoming SMS rules and delivered to the user´s email account via POP3.     Configuration steps  Modules grouping In the first step go to section "Messaging –> Modules grouping" and enable SMS server – check the appropriate check-box. Next add GSM modules to SMS groups to facilitate incoming/outgoing SMS routing. It can be done based on your requirements e.g. according to the GSM provider, etc. The last step in this section is to assign SMS groups created in the previous step to the User groups if you want to use messaging with different routing rules (e.g. to different company departments). The GSM gateway can contain up to 4 User groups and up to 32 SMS groups (yellow circle in the picture below). Note: in this section you can also enable AutoCLIP routing for SMS. Set the maximum time for which the automatic SMS routing record (response) will be saved in the AutoCLIP table. It means that once you send an email to some specific GSM number (734123456@domain.com) and after some time the mobile user responds to this message and sends SMS message to SIM card inserted in the GSM module from which the email was previously sent, then this message will be automatically resent directly to the user who sent the email. In the example below GSM modules 0, 1, 2, 3 and 4 were added to SMS group 0 and only users from User group 1 can use these modules (for incoming and outgoing SMS routing).     Add User As a next step you need to skip to the section "Messaging –> Users", click on the "Add" button and create new SMS user(s) who is going to send and receive SMS messages. There are several parameters in this section which have to be set. You need to select the communication protocol for SMS processing (SMTP/POP3 ) and assign the user to User group. Also don not forget to define the Login name (without domain) and Password to log into the SMS server via your e–mail client. You can see all parameters from this section in the picture below where was created an user "Test Account" with the login "Test" and password "test123". Once you fill in all parameters click on the "OK" button. The user will be added and after that you have to make one more click to the "Save settings" button in the bottom right corner of the page (blue circle label on the picture).     General settings Set the parameters of domain in the "Messaging –> User Group –> General settings" sub-menu. The domain is automatically assigned to the user´s login in the selected User group and represents the user´s email address. In this section you can also define some parameters for POP3 and SMTP such as a subject of email, a maximum SMS per email. Then you can add "From" field as well as "Subject" to SMS (see the picture below). In our example (in the previous step) the new user was created with login name "Test". In this section we will set domain as: gateway.com. Then the email address of the user with rights to access the SMS server will be Test@gateway.com. The “@” character is completed automatically and is not included in the domain field.     Incoming SMS routing Now specify the routing rules for incoming SMS messages – this is done in the "Messaging –> User Group –> Incoming SMS routing" menu where you click on the "Add" button. There are several parameters which can be set or modified (see the picture below). Three most important ones are:  Message from SMS group – select the SMS group that receives SMS messages  Action type – specify how incoming messages will be processed. You can set AutoCLIP routing (the incoming SMS will be routed according to the AutoCLIP table records), Deliver to user (the SMS will be delivered to the selected user) or Drop message (the SMS will be dropped).  Deliver to user – this field is used only if you have selected "Deliver to user" in the previous step. Here receives the SMS the user previously defined. SMS routed directly to one user´s email accountIn the picture below you can see that each message which is received on GSM modules assigned to SMS group 0 (in our case these are GSM modules 0, 1, up to 4 – set in the 1st step) is routed directly to the user "Test Account". It means that once you send a SMS to the SIM cards inserted in one of the GSM modules 0 - 4, this SMS will be converted to the email and sent to the email account Test@gateway.com. You can also specify the time and day when this routing rule is going to be active. Once you finish the configuration, click on the "OK" button and after that on the "Save settings" button.    SMS routed based on the AutoCLIP routing tableSometimes it is not desirable to send all received SMS messages to one user but you require to send SMS messages based on the AutoCLIP routing table records. Before you begin reading this FAQ, you will need following settings/equipment already prepared:  at least one fully operational gateway  at least one GSM Group, one SIM Group and one Rule created  SIM cards assigned to the SIM Group, GSM modules assigned to the GSM Group  If you have absolutely no experiences with the SIM Star Server configuration, it is highly recommended to proceed the basic training first. Below you will find the description of different GSM module statuses that you can see in the column Status from the GSMs menu of the SIM Star Server together with the troubleshooting hints.  SIM connecting The specific remote SIM card was properly assigned to the specific GSM module and the interconnection between the SIM client (gateway) and the SIM board is being established. If the SIM stays in SIM connecting status, check following please:  Proper routing settings- whether NAT is used. In default the SIMs on the SIM board are available on ports 10.000 - 10.031 which have to be properly routed for the access from the public IP address. If routing is set correctly, please make sure the SIM base port 2 for the SIM board is configured as well.  If there is the LAN used only, make sure there are no local ports blocked.  If GSM modules are used only (no UMTS modules inserted), switch SIM caching to mode GSM only.     SIM logging The SIM card data are downloaded from the specific remote SIM card located in the SIM Board (depending on the SIM cache settings) and the SIM is logged to the mobile network. If the SIM stays in SIM logging status, check following please:  Proper connection of the aerial (antenna) to the GSM module and the signal intensity level of the mobile network.  BTS lock Internet connectivity delay and packet loss for the communication between the gateway and the SIM board. Recommended delay is less than 500ms which can be a problem for ex. for the satellite connectivity. Also check the cables, router and contact please your internet service provider.  The minimum signal level set on the GSM Group (GSM Groups - BTS Lock Type: Use random available BTS for each call - Min. Signal level).  Availability of the specific BTS from the assignment table (GSM Groups - BTS lock type - Use the assignment table).    Credit checking procedure for prepaid SIMs (SIM Groups - Prepaid SIM card settings). The SIM can be actually already logged to the network, however it will keep the SIM logging status until it gets the information about the current credit balance. If the SIM Star Server will not be able to get the credit balance, the SIM will not be allowed to be used!  If SIM caching is used, the SIM can be logged to the network faster- even before the gateway gets all data. The cache can be adjusted separately for the SIM client (gateway) and for the SIM board. Is the SIM card able to log to the mobile network if you put it directly into a mobile phone? If not, contact your GSM provider please.  GSM only - gets GSM data from the SIM card only, logging into the UMTS network is not possible. Check the availability of GSM network coverage and make sure there is GSM coverage in the gateway's location.  UMTS only - gets UMTS data from the SIM card only, logging into the GSM network is not possible. Check the availability of UMTS network coverage and make sure there is UMTS coverage in the gateway's location.     No SIM There are no SIM cards ready to use from the SIM Group(s) associated to this GSM Group. If the status is [No SIM], check following please:  Availability of SIMs with enough credit/free minutes.  Time limitation of the rule used for the SIM/GSM Group (Rules - Time limitations) and also proper time and date setting of the SIM Star Server (SIM Server - Time).  Click on the View button on the row of the specific GSM module in the GSMs menu and take a look at the Lookup info with closer details about the current status.    [no info] There is no information about the specific GSM module due to no connectivity between the gateway and the SIM Star Server (Gateways - Gateway status/SIM client status). If the status is [no info], check following please:  The gateway is up and running.  Proper routing settings if NAT is used. In default the ports 23 (gateway AT port) and 1500 (SIM client AT port) are used.  If only LAN is used, make sure there are no local ports blocked.  Activation of the SIM Client in the web interface of the eCPU. Go to the menu Management: System status - SIM Client - ACTIVATED.    [unused - no GSM] There is no GSM module inserted in the gateway. Insert please a GSM board to the specific position in the gateway and assign it to a GSM group.

Voice recognition - How to set Voice recognition (number portability detection)?

The Voice detection feature is very suitable for the detection of an announcement about ported numbers. The gateway can match detected voice received  during alerting state  with the voice message stored in the gateway's memory and  automatically route the call to another destination in the LCR  .  This feature is activated whenever is at least one voice message for detection uploaded. Up to 8 different voice messages can be detected at once, the message length is limited up to 10 s per each.  Supported format is PCM–Alaw, Mono, 8000 Hz, 8 bits. It is highly recommended to upload the voice message recorded directly from the gateway (use inbuilt Wireshark trace) in order to get the best possible match.   How to record the voice message   1) Go to the menu Utils - Network capture and record a trace with desired message.   2) Extract the audio in Wireshark: Telephony - RTP - Show all Streams - Select Stream - Analyse - Save payload. Choose a name of the audio file, set "Format" to ".au" and "Channels" to "both".   3) Convert the audio file in the ".au" format to the PCM–Alaw format. You can easily use for example Gold Wave audio editor (http://www.goldwave.com/) for the conversion.      How to set the detection in the gateway   1) Go to the menu Gateway control - Voice messages and s  elect one of 8 voice messages you would like to upload:    2) Click on the upload button:      3) And save uploaded file:      4) Go to the menu Gateway configuration - GSM basic parameters and set Minimum percent to match in the Voice message detector settings sub menu.     It is recommended to set a value between 71% and 89% otherwise the detection can work improperly. The proper function has to be always tested before the regular usage.  Once the feature is set and the voice message match is properly recognised in the alerting state, the gateway   will disconnect the call and routes it to the next destination in the LCR (only if any next destination is available)   .    For example if voice message is detected during a call through the GSM group 1, the call is disconnected and next available destination (GSM group 2) is used. This feature is available from the firmware version 1.15.0. Thanks to the shared firmware platform the feature is also available on 2N VoiceBlue Next, 2N VoiceBlue MAX and 2N BRI gateways.  Info   This feature is available for gateways with the Telit GE910 GSM module only. Installation The thin VoIP card is compatible with all VoIP gateways (StarGate, BlueStar) and BlueTower with new chassis. For installation of thin VoIP card remove VoIP card already installed in the gateway and insert the thin VoIP card to this empty position. For correct functionality of thin VoIP card you have to use firmware version 2.30.01 or higher and firmware for VoIP card. Firmware version 2.30.01 has to be used with boot 2.52 or higher. All firmware files can be uploaded using configuration tool. Version of configuration tool has to be 1.1g or higher.  Firmware for gateway can be uploaded via COM or Ethernet connection. Firmware files have the suffix hex (for example P2005-V-02.30.01.hex).Firmware for VoIP card is uploaded via Ethernet connection. Firmware files have the suffix out (for example SECUREDM642.out). For successful upload of the VoIP card firmware- MAC address for VoIP card has to be set on CPU.
